Wonders of Chile: Santiago, Atacama, Torres del Paine & More

Duration
13 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,921

FIRST-CLASS | SMALL GROUP: A wonderfully paced exploration of Chile, this encompassing program takes you to the top highlights of mainland Chile. From the deserts of Atacama to the spectacular Lake District to the indomitable wilderness of Torres del Paine, this trip is sure to impress.

This 13-day trip through one of South America’s most diverse landscapes invites you to look at Chile in a whole new light. Explore the ever-changing streets of Santiago, catch a serene moment in the Atacama Desert, find your own adventure in the Lake District, and surround yourself with the unmatched wilderness of Patagonia.

Begin the journey with a night in Santiago, Chile's resourceful and exciting capital. Explore whatever interests you but don’t stress about cramming it all in, you’ll be coming back! Fly to San Pedro de Atacama for three nights discovering the dynamic colours of the world’s driest desert. Dry, of course, doesn’t mean lifeless. Flocks of flamingos add yet another splash to Atacama’s colour scheme, while local lagoons attract a wide variety of birds. See spouting geysers and visit a local village to learn about life in this remote part of the world. The highlight is perhaps the Valley of the Moon, surrounded by incredible natural formations high in the Andes. After dark, ponder the mysteries of the universe as you stargaze under some of the world’s clearest skies.

Fly to Chile’s Lake District, where you’ll stay in lovely Puerto Varas, on Lake Llanquihue. This mountainous region turns into a skier’s paradise each winter. During the warmer months, however, it invites you to hike, enjoy the lakes, and explore the German-influenced culture of the many small towns that surround them. That includes culinary influence, in case you needed one more reason to go!

Your next stop is the Patagonia region and Torres del Paine National Park. Fly to Punta Arenas and settle in before a full-day tour takes you to some of the most spectacular viewpoints and natural formations of Chile’s ultimate outdoor playground. Then take another day to explore the fjord regions, including the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. Punta Arenas itself is a well-equipped tourist town designed for trekkers, so you’ll have no trouble staying supplied, or finding a great spot for dinner each evening.

Return to Santiago for a full-day tour through the best of the city including Plaza de Armas and Bariro Lastarria, one of the city’s cultural hubs. Santiago is famous for its DYI creativity and street art, so enjoy the bohemian vibe in between tourist attractions, all in the shadow of the spectacular Andes. You might even want to stay a few days and explore Valparaiso, the neighbouring port city.
