This 14-day trip is a guideline for what you (min age 21) can do in two weeks with a rental of a 2Berth – Alpha Spaceship, a unique vehicle that combines the flexibility of a car, with the most useful features of a campervan. It's perfect for exploring the UK and Ireland at your own pace, and your itinerary is completely at your discretion. Here are some suggestions for the top stops.
York looks and feels like an England straight out of legend. Explore York Minster, and wander the eminently walkable streets, admiring centuries-old architecture. The road here from London is dotted with fascinating places to stop including Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s home town, and Oxford University.
Edinburgh is Scotland’s most popular destination and with good reason, combining centuries of history, famous Edinburgh castle, and an insatiable appetite for life, the arts, and a good time. Consider a whiskey tour, take a day to zip up to Loch Ness, or across to Glasgow to see Scotland’s more industrial, but no less creative side.
Northern Ireland is a unique corner of the UK, often overlooked by travellers, but packed with interesting features such as the Giants Causeway, and the walled city of Derry, not to mention first class entertainment and hospitality in Belfast itself.
The Republic of Ireland is a self-driver’s dream trip, with many beautiful regions waiting to be explored, alongside lively, historic cities. Explore bohemian Galway, then follow the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry as you make your way to Killarney. You might also want to give some time to the Dingle Peninsula and historic Cork. If you plan to include Dublin on your itinerary, be sure to allow it a couple of nights. There is just too much to see and enjoy in the Irish capital for a one-day stop.
We recommend booking any ferries between Great Britain and Ireland in advance to maximise your time.
As you make your way back to London, there’s still one big piece of the UK & Ireland to see, Wales. Doctor Who fans will no doubt have Cardiff on their itinerary already, but the delightful Welsh capital had plenty to offer visitors before the BBC’s favourite sci-fi hero began filming adventures there, including Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay, Castell Coch, and the Millennium Centre.
