Lucca is along the road from Florence that leads towards the coast. It is a refined city of art, surrounded by renaissance style tree-lined walls and impressive bastions. Here you will have time to enjoy a beautiful walk along a stretch of the city walls, with a view over the roofs, alleys, tower-houses, churches and aristocratic palaces of the city. Next move to the historical town centre and discover Piazza S. Michele, with the splendid Basilica in white limestone. Pass by the characteristic shops overlooking the squares and follows the narrow roads to reach the Piazza del Mercato. Here you can admire the particular shape built on the tracks of the Roman amphitheatre, dating back to the second century BC. After a short journey we reach the Versilian coast and the seaside town of Viareggio. This town is famous for its beautiful beaches, the "Liberty" architecture and the long "Viale del Mare" with cafes, restaurants, shops, and venues. Here you have freetime to admire the city, taste the fragrant cuisine of Viareggio and, during the warmer seasons, take a dip into the warm Tyrrhenian Sea with the spectacular backdrop of the Apuan Alps. In the afternoon we move inland and reach the city of Pisa, waiting for us with the glittering sight of Piazza dei Miracoli, where the peerless masterpieces in marble rise from the green lawn. The famous Leaning Tower, the magnificent Baptistery, the stunning Cathedral, and the Monumental Graveyard, are all expressions of the Romanesque architecture of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
