If the Sognefjord is the king of the fjords of Western Norway, the Hardangerfjord is surely the queen. The 179-kilometre-long fjord offers scenery that will spellbind even the most seasoned traveller. Here, there are cultural and natural gems galore.
The trip takes you by train from Bergen to Voss and continues by bus to the delightful little village of Ulvik. If you're lucky enough to be here in May, you will see the beautiful fruit trees in full blossom. From Ulvik, the trip continues by boat to Eidfjord where you will experience a sightseeing trip to Vøringsfossen waterfall (Norway's biggest waterfall) and the Norwegian Nature Centre Hardanger.
The round trip continues with a beautiful boat trip to Norheimsund, where a bus will be waiting to take you back to Bergen. You will pass the cascading Steinsdalsfossen waterfall on the way. It is also possible to start the tour from Bergen by bus and travel in the opposite direction.
