Best of Iceland Cruise: Westfjords, Huskavik, the Westman Islands & More

7 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,299

FIRST-CLASS | CRUISE: On this 7-day cruise, you’ll discover beautiful fjords, massive glaciers, hot springs, waterfalls, and many volcanoes. Aboard the Ocean Diamond, you’ll circumnavigate the Land of Fire and Ice to visit the Westfjords, the Lake Myvatn area, and the Westman Islands. Price includes all shore excursions.

This 7-day Icelandic vacation takes you on a circumnavigation cruise around the nation to see the Westfjords, Husavik, and the Westman Islands. It features moderate accommodations aboard a cruise vessel and shared tours.

Your journey begins in the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik, where you’ll have the day to explore the funky corridors and historical landmarks of the world’s most northerly capital. In the evening, board the Ocean Diamond, your floating hotel for the next 7 nights as you explore the country on a circumnavigation cruise. First stop is Snaefellsnes, the northwestern peninsula that offers a taste of “Iceland in miniature” with its diverse landscape of volcanoes, rocky coastline, and windswept plains. You’ll see Snaefellsjokull Glacier, which was the opening to the centre of the earth in Jules Verne’s classic A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, as well as picturesque Kirkjufell Mountain, with its oft-photographed arrowhead top. Continue to the Westfjords, arguably the most secluded part of the country, where you’ll explore a dramatic landscape of glaciers, fjords, and sparse northern vegetation.

Continue along the north coast and reach Akureyri, the second-largest town in the nation. You’ll explore the Lake Myvatn area to the south, where the geothermal activity has produced a region of drastic contrasts, with boiling waters, icy glaciers, and lush vegetation all sharing a compact area. Continue to Skjalfandi Bay and Husavik, the whale watching capital of the nation, where you’ll have a chance to see one of 15 different species of migrating whales as well as sea birds. Round the northeastern corner of Iceland and head south to the fishing village of Djupivogur, where you’ll disembark for a 4WD tour up Vatnajokull Glacier. Continue along the south coast and reach the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where you’ll head on a boat ride along the floating icebergs of this magical lake. On the final day of your cruise, reach the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar), a series of young volcanic islands formed only 10,000 years ago. In fact, the youngest island emerged from the sea in 1963. Explore this dramatic volcanic island chain, where you’ll have a chance to spot migrating whales.

Return to Reykjavik, where you’ll disembark and connect to the airport to continue to your next destination or return home.
