Classic Italian Highlights: Venice to Florence to Rome

Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,343

Explore three historic cities on one unforgettable trip to Italy. Ride a gondola down the Grand Canal in Venice, marvel at Michelangelo’s “David” and other artistic masterworks in Florence, explore the Tuscan countryside, and experience the glories of the Vatican Museums before walking in the footsteps of gladiators at the Colosseum in Rome.

This 9-day Italy vacation showcases the highlights of Venice, Florence, and Rome.

Your trip to Italy begins in Venice, the city of canals that used to be one of the world’s cultural and commercial capitals. Get acquainted with this gorgeous medieval city with a private walking tour that takes you off the beaten track to visit La Fenice Opera House, the stunning Bovolo spiral staircase, and the home of Marco Polo. During the tour, you’ll also learn about the unique architecture and construction of Venice’s buildings, which sit atop an archipelago of 117 small islands. After the tour, spend some time winding through the narrow streets and exploring popular St. Mark’s Square and St. Mark’s Basilica. The next day, experience Venice from the romantic viewpoint of the water as you enjoy a gondola ride beneath Rialto Bridge and along the Grand Canal.

Continue your Italy vacation to Florence, the Tuscan capital and the birthplace of the Renaissance. Spend a day exploring the city’s gorgeous Renaissance sights and artistic masterworks. First stop is the Academy Gallery where you’ll see the world’s most famous statue, Michelangelo’s “David.” Learn about the Medici family, who ruled the city during the Renaissance, and lay eyes on its most significant architectural masterworks, including Florence Cathedral, home to Brunelleschi’s famous Duomo. The next day, leave Florence to explore the towns of Siena and San Gimignano, strolling through their medieval town squares, before feasting on Tuscan cuisine at a boutique winery in the Chianti countryside.

Close out your Italy tour in Rome, the nation’s capital and the heart of the ancient Roman Empire. It’s impossible to be anything but dazzled by all that Rome has to offer. Spend your first day taking in some of the romantic highlights like the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. The next day, spend the morning exploring the Vatican Museums, beating the crowds with an early entrance pass. Skip the line and marvel at Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel before the crowds can enter. Then explore the galleries of the museum, including the marvellous Raphael Rooms, before entering St. Peter’s Basilica to see the Pieta and climb the dome for views of the square and city. In the afternoon, journey back in time to Ancient Rome with a visit to the Colosseum. Gain access to restricted areas and experience the vantage point of fighters on the stadium floor and in the underground dungeons. Afterwards, explore the centres of Ancient Rome on Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum.

At the end of your journey, head to the airport to connect back home.
