This weeklong stay in London is an ideal ‘first timer’s’ visit to this magical city. Take a sightseeing tour, pay your respects to Her Majesty at Windsor Castle, immerse yourself in the mysteries of Stonehenge and Bath, and fill in your spare days with whichever aspects of London most interest you.
This 8-day London vacation includes flights from North America, and is the perfect introduction to the city. It includes spare time to customize your sightseeing, plus day trips to out of town highlights such as Windsor Castle and the city of Bath.
Stay in a centrally located hotel convenient to Hyde Park and the London Underground. Spend the rest of your arrival day exploring at leisure. The following day, hop aboard The Original London Sightseeing Tour, choosing from over 80 different stops with the benefit of commentary en route. There’s no more convenient way to get around the best of London, in one of its iconic red buses, no less! You won’t be able to see it all in one day, so take a day at leisure afterward, taking the tube to swing back to those sights you missed.
England is filled with beautiful historic castles, but Windsor Castle, just past Heathrow Airport, is still an official residence of the Queen, so enjoy a day trip that allows you to roam the halls of a living royal residence. Then venture on to Stonehenge, an archaeological mystery that confounds researchers and inspires pagans to this day. Your final destination on this trip is the historic Georgian City of Bath, where the legacy of the conquering Romans is alive and well. The city’s thermal springs have been supplying the city with water for over two millennia, and the waters are still said to have healing properties. Return to London in the evening.
In total, this itinerary gives you three full days at leisure in London, on top of your arrival and departure days. The city spoils for choice when it comes to attractions for any interest. Many of them are free, including the British Museum, the Tate Modern art gallery, the National Gallery, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Natural History Museum. Others that are well worth their admission charges include the historic Tower of London, beautiful Saint Paul’s Cathedral, and splendid Westminster Abbey, the final resting place of a veritable who’s who of British monarchs and historical figures. Theatre fans might prefer to take a tour of the National Theatre or Shakespeare’s Globe (in between West End shows of course!), while film buffs and families won’t want to miss a visit to the Warner Brothers Studios, where you can take a tour of the Harry Potter studio. Just be sure to leave some time for the local pleasures like strolling Camden Town, grazing Borough Markets, pulling up a pint at a traditional pub, or taking high tea at one of Soho’s famous tea rooms.

Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath
Your day begins with a visit to one of the National Treasures. Built high above the River Thames, Windsor Castle has been home to the Royal Family for 900 years and is still an Official Residence of the Queen. Here you will visit the magnificent State Apartments, still used for State occasions and Royal receptions.
Your next stop is clouded in mystery. The ancient stone circle of Stonehenge is an amazing feat of engineering and the most important prehistoric site in England, but beyond its archaeological significance and possible astronomical role, Stonehenge is also a place of spiritual importance. Early legends link it with Merlin and King Arthur, but over the last hundred years the midsummer sunrise has attracted pagan groups and followers of the Ancient Order of Druids.
You will also visit the beautiful Georgian City of Bath and take you on a panoramic tour of some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, including Bath Abbey, the Royal Crescent, the Circus, Assembly Rooms and the famous Pulteney Bridge. Explore the Roman Baths, built around thermal springs, which have been supplying water for over 2,000 years. In Roman times a great Temple was built next to the sacred spring - the waters were believed to have healing properties and attracted visitors from across the Roman Empire.
Return to London in the evening.
