Ediburgh Golfing Experience

Duration
7 Days
Prices:
On request

Experience the ultimate mix of golf and culture on this trip to Edinburgh. In Edinburgh, you’ll take advantage of the hop-on hop-off bus tour, enjoy a foodie walking tour, explore the Highlands with a small group, and tee up at three championship golf courses before returning each night to luxury accommodations at the Waldorf Astoria.

This 7-day Scottish vacation combines visits to three golf courses with a city break in the capital of Edinburgh. It features deluxe accommodations and is perfect for golfers who want to experience a bit of culture in addition to teeing up for 18 holes.

This Scotland tour begins in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, a city awash with medieval and Georgian architecture. Glasgow might be larger, but Edinburgh remains the most popular city in Scotland and a great spot for food and history. Staying in the Caledonian at the Waldorf Astoria, you’ll enjoy 5-star accommodations and a romantic atmosphere as you explore the city. Take advantage of the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour to dart around the city’s hills, visiting the medieval Old Town and Georgian New Town as well as Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill with its series of monuments and gorgeous views. The next day, head on an out of town excursion across the Highlands to see Birnam Wood, pass Loch Tummel, and sample the national drink of Scotland, single malt whiskey, at the Aberfeldy Distillery.

The next day, it’s time to hit the links. Head to Gullane Golf Course to play at one of the oldest courses in the country. You’ll experience Gullane’s great turf and the incredible climate that makes it popular for golfers all year round. Take a break from golf and enjoy a walking food tour of Edinburgh. Learn about the city in the company of an expert guide and enjoy a tasting course of Scottish foods, including Haggis neeps and tatties, charcuterie, and finish it off with a single malt whiskey tasting. Your final two days are all about golf. On the first day, tee off at the Castle Golf Course in St. Andrews, set on a rugged clifftop overlooking the town. The second day, hit up the North Berwick Gold Club and play on its championship course with great views of the Firth of Forth, Craigleth, and the town of North Berwick. At the end of your stay, head to the airport to continue your onward journey.

Laid out over prime seaside land, the three golf courses are simply known by number reflecting their age. Gullane No. 1 (1884) has a long history of hosting national and international championship golf events. The Club was delighted to host the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and has also previously hosted Local Final Qualifying for the Open Championship at neighbouring Muirfield. The last time this was held was in 2013. Gullane No. 2 (1898) was laid out by the legendary Willie Park Jr and has also been used for Open Championship Qualifying as well as the Seniors Open Amateur. Gullane No. 3 (1910) was also designed by Willie Park Jr. It may be the shortest of the three courses, but it provides a wonderful test based on shot-making skills rather than power.
