Day 3

Stonehenge with Afternoon in Bath

Perhaps the most famous prehistoric monument in the world, and an acclaimed world heritage site, Stonehenge stands alone in a vast empty tract of the Salisbury Plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years and through the millennia it has been home to pagan religions, revered as a site of spiritual worship, and in more recent years, it has been the source of much public debate. What was this vast collection of stones intended for? Was it designed to observe the moon, as a temple to the sun, or is it an elaborate cemetery? Who were the people who carried and carved these 40-ton rocks? Though the secrets of this historic site are likely to remain unrevealed, this remarkable and mysterious feat of ancient engineering and design is sure to be enjoyed, whether in spite or because of its enigmatic history.

Next, you'll head to Bath, arriving in time for lunch. With fabulous restaurants, tea houses, sandwich and coffee shops, not to mention all the classic British pubs, there are no shortage of options for an excellent meal. Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture.

Following the scenic drive into the heart of the city, there will be plenty of time to explore at your leisure before the return voyage to London, which you will arrive in at approximately at 7:30 pm.

London - Stratford-upon-Avon

Leaving London on a small group adventure with like-minded explorers in tow, your adventure into Shakespeare's England begins with a visit to the World Heritage site of Blenheim Palace. Learn the history of this three hundred year-old masterpiece, explore the gardens, or take a ride on the estate's very own miniature railway line.

After the palace and a lunch break, the trip continues to the Rollright Standing Stones. An ancient complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, they are found on the crest of the Cotswold Hills and mark the borderlands between the great counties of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.

Round off the afternoon with a visit to the Hook Norton Brewery where you'll learn about the production of beer in one of the Cotswolds' most beautiful areas and savour a lovingly produced, local drink. Stratford-upon-Avon - London

Departing Stratford-upon-Avon, you'll set out toward the Cotswolds, a huge area that covers five counties and offers a variety of unique landscapes and delightful villages. The rolling hills, communities, and farms of this area give you a glimpse of times-past, to an England with a gentler pace of life.
