Essence of the Baltic: Helsinki to Stockholm Coach Tour

Duration
6 Days
Prices:
On request

Covering just the essential stops, this short Baltic tour is ideal for exploring the Finnish capital of Helsinki, beautiful old Tallinn, and chic Stockholm, with plenty of time to explore at leisure.

Explore Scandinavia on this Locally Escorted Group Tour that includes specially selected accommodations, quality transportation, sightseeing, special culinary experiences and a knowledgeable Tour Escort.

This 6-day trip through the Baltics gives you a taste of three very different countries in Europe’s north.

Start in Helsinki, capital of Finland, with a famously high standard of living, a multitude of saunas, and an obsession with good coffee. You’ll also see architecture that uniquely blends Scandinavian and Russian influences. A two hour tour takes you to see Senate Square, the University, Kaivopuisto Park, the Sibelius Monument and more, possibly including the Temppeliaukio Church, which is carved into solid rock. Arrive a day or two early if you want to explore all Helsinki has to offer.

Hop the ferry to Tallinn for a two hour tour of the famous Old Town. Admire the views and castle of Toompea Hill, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and other icons of the Estonian capital. Then spend the night there with the following morning at leisure to explore some more on your own. Some have called Tallinn ‘the North’s Prague’ for its eclectic mix of Medieval architecture and offbeat Soviet-era art. It’s also emerged as one of the new party hubs of Europe.

An overnight cruise across the Baltic takes you to Stockholm, capital of Sweden. This beautiful city is built on 14 islands, connected by 57 bridges, and is a showcase of innovation and modern architecture. Yet Stockholm also retains the charms of its past, particularly in the Gamla Stan old town. A city tour here will give you an overview, and an insight into Stockholm’s history. But you’ll also have an extra day to spend at leisure. You might admire the Viking ships at the Vasa Museet, explore the outdoor world of Skansen, enjoy cutting edge art at Moderna Museet, or step back into the 70s at ABBA: The Museum.

Day 4

Arrival in Stockholm

Breakfast on board. After disembarking, we meet a local guide and depart by private coach for a 3-hour panoramic city tour of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The city of Stockholm, built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, embraces a unique character of 13th century Old Town with modern high-tech architecture. Stockholm's islands are bordered by Lake Malaren in the west and the Baltic Sea in the east, where the archipelago with its 30.000 islands awaits exploration. The capital is a big city with a small town personality. Its handy size with short walking distances makes it easy to cover a lot in a short amount of time. Stockholm is proudly called "Beauty on Water" and the sightseeing tour, which includes a walk through the Old Town, passing the City Hall where the Nobel festivities take place, makes for a memorable morning tour. Discover a city of contrasts. Go back 750 years in time and feel the medieval atmosphere of Old Town "Gamla Stan" as you wander through narrow streets. You will see the seven hundred year old cathedral of Stockholm, seat of the archbishop, during your stroll through Old Town and get a chance to see Stortorget, where the Stockholm Blood Bath took place. We will also stop at Fjallgatan, where you will be able to enjoy the best view of Stockholm. (No entrances included). The tour ends at the hotel.

The afternoon is at leisure.
