This 8-day trip combines Portugal’s capital with one of its most charismatic islands, Madeira.
Take a day to settle into Lisbon and find out what’s drawn the world to Portugal’s hilly capital. A half-day tour on your second day will take you to many of the highlights including the sights of neighbouring Belem, Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries. It will also take you to the historic Alfama district. But you’ll have plenty of time to explore whichever side of Lisbon enchants you. Wander the ruins of Camo Convent, hop aboard one of the city’s trams, or order up a couple of pasteis the nata with an espresso and watch the world go by. The following day takes you to Sintra, home to Portugal’s most fantastical palaces, including the colourful Pena Palace.
Fly to Funchal, the capital of the island of Madeira, and choose from a number of optional excursions available. Visit the volcanic caves and vineyards of the northern coast, and swim in the natural volcanic pools of Porto Moniz. Explore enormous forests and stunning clifftop views on this picturesque island. Learn about the levadas, man-made irrigation channels essential to keeping dry Madeira healthy and green. Take a full day to explore Funchal on your own, or simply relax on one of the Atlantic’s most beautiful islands before you depart.

Arrive Lisbon
On arrival at Lisbon Airport, meet your drive and transfer to the hotel.
Lisbon spreads across steep hillsides that overlook the River Tagus. It is made up of tree-lined avenues, green parks, old and new neighbourhoods and narrow inviting streets. The city is located on the Atlantic coast. Head to the north coast to Sao Vicente in the North Coast, known for its vineyards, volcanic caves and Madeira table wine production. Then visit Seixal´s lava pools to see one of the most famous waterfall that by resembling a bride ́s veil got its name Véu da Noiva . Afterwards, stop at the natural volcanic pools in Porto Moniz, one of the most visited places in Madeira, having the opportunity to swim in crystalline waters (entry not included) and enjoy the beautiful scenery around them. After this, go uphill to Fanal, a place of rare beauty with centenary trees in the heart of the Laurissilva Forest (the largest in the world), which is one of the 7th Natural Wonders of Portugal. Continuing to Paúl da Serra, the biggest plateau of the island at nearly 1500 mts high with stunning views. To finish our tour, drive to Cabo Girao, the highest Sea Cliff in Europe and the second in the World with 580 mts., better known for its suspended glass floor Viewpoint.

Levadas are man-made irrigation channels carrying water to fields around the island. Today, there are over 200 levadas in Madeira that reach up to 3000 metre of channels, offering a myriad of interconnecting footpaths to discover the breathtaking landscapes of mountains, flora and fauna. There are various options for levada walks including easy, moderate and difficult levels for a half of full day.
