Essence of Scandinavia Coach Tour: Stockholm to Oslo

Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,793

See the best of Europe’s north on this Scandinavia tour from Stockholm to Oslo. Walk in the shadow of Vikings, discover wonderful Copenhagen, and explore Norway’s magnificent fjords.

Explore Scandinavia on this Locally Escorted Group Tour that includes specially selected accommodations, quality transportation, sightseeing, special culinary experiences and a knowledgeable Tour Escort.

This 9-day Scandinavia trip takes you to the most vibrant cities in the region, allowing time to explore its natural beauty.

Begin in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, set on a magnificent formation of fourteen islands. Stroll the beautiful Gamla Stan old town, take in the view from Fjallgatan, and spend the afternoon at leisure choosing from a wide range of innovative museums and galleries. You might admire the ships at the Vasa Museet, explore the outdoor world of Skansen, enjoy cutting edge art at Moderna Museet, or step back into the 70s at ABBA: The Museum.

Speed through the Swedish countryside and cross the lengthy Oresund Bridge (Scandinavian crime novel fans take note) to Copenhagen. A three hour tour will help you get your bearings, during which you’ll see the City Hall Square, famous theme park Tivoli Gardens, the New Carlsburg Glyptotheque, the Kings New Square, and the Nyhavn canal district. Snap a photo of Amalienborg Palace, and of course, the famous Little Mermaid statue before taking the afternoon and evening to explore on your own.

After a short ferry ride, travel along the west coast of Sweden and cross the border into Norway. Your destination is the capital city, Oslo, often overlooked by travellers on their way to the fjords. Yet no city captures the essence of Norway’s culture, history and sensibility like its capital. Admire the sculptures of Vigeland Park and pass by the royal palace. Rather than stay overnight in Oslo, you’ll be based at the beautiful small town of Geilo, famous for its lake surroundings and ski resorts.

Time to explore Norway at its most beautiful! Your private coach takes you to Bruravik, then follows the fjord to Bergen, stopping for lunch at the famous Bergen fish market. Then enjoy a walking tour through UNESCO World Heritage Listed Bryggen, a major city in the once expansive Hanseatic League, and one of Norway’s most beautiful towns today.

The following day, set out for your journey on the famous Flam railway. This picturesque train ride takes you to Flam, on the bank of the Aurland Fjord. You’ll have the option to take an extra ferry trip along the fjords, or just spend the time exploring Flam itself. You’ll then make several stops at small towns on your way back to Oslo. Board your homeward flight the next day, or stay a while to enjoy all the Norwegian capital has to offer.

Stockholm

The city of Stockholm, built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, embraces a unique character of 13th century Old Town with modern high-tech architecture. Stockholm's islands are bordered by Lake Mälaren in the west and the Baltic Sea in the east, where the archipelago with its 30.000 islands awaits exploration. Stockholm is proudly called "Beauty on Water" and the sightseeing tour, which includes a walk through the Old Town, passing the City Hall where the Nobel festivities take place, makes for a memorable morning tour. Discover a city of contrasts. Go back 750 years in time and feel the medieval atmosphere of Old Town "Gamla Stan" as you wander through narrow streets. You will see the seven hundred year old cathedral of Stockholm, seat of the archbishop, during your stroll through Old Town and get a chance to see Stortorget, where the Stockholm Blood Bath took place. You will also stop at Fjällgatan, where you will be able to enjoy the best view of Stockholm. (No entrances included). The tour ends at the hotel.
