FIRST-CLASS | SMALL GROUP: Bergen and the fjords await your arrival, as do two wonderful northern capitals; Oslo and Stockholm. Join this small group tour and discover the essence of the north!

Explore Scandinavia on this Locally Escorted Group Tour that includes specially-selected accommodations, quality transportation, sightseeing, special culinary experiences, and a knowledgeable Tour Escort.

This 8-day journey through some of Scandinavia's stunningly beautiful fjordland includes a stay in Norway’s most attractive and popular city, Bergen, followed by two scenic overnights in Stalheim and Fagernes, and visits to the capitals, Oslo and Stockholm.

Start your fjord tour with a 2-night stay in Bergen, commonly thought to be Norway’s most beautiful city. Enjoy some free time before taking an afternoon tour of the city, which includes St. Mary’s Church, Haakon's Hall, the colourful and picturesque fish markets, and the old Bryggen area district. This is the only surviving trace of the Hanseatic League, the trade alliance that once spanned Northern Europe all the way into Russia.

The next day, leave Bergen and travel overland to Voss, the well-known ski resort with its background of snowy mountain peaks. After a short stay, continue your journey through the Naeroy Valley to Stalheim with its magnificent views of the Stalheim Gorge where you will overnight.

The following morning, proceed through the Naeroy Valley to Gudvangen where you board a ferry that takes you along the Naeroyfjord, a picturesque but narrow fjord. Disembark at the village of Flam where you will have some free time. Continue later along the Aurlandsfjord. En route, stop at Borgund Stave Church before finally finishing up in Fagernes, where you'll stay overnight.

Leaving the fjords behind and travel to Oslo, the Norwegian capital, which is beautifully situated alongside its own fjord. On arrival, enjoy a tour of the city, which includes the Opera House situated right on the Oslo fjord where you will spend some time on the terrace area before heading off to Bygdoy Island. Unique Vigeland Park here is one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures with the open-air sculptures of Gustav Vigeland. Also pass by the Royal Palace and the main thoroughfare of Oslo, Karl Johan Street.

Close out your Scandinavia vacation by passing into Sweden and stopping in the capital city, Stockholm. Built on an archipelago of 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, Stockholm is a compact, gorgeous city boasting impeccable style. Take a sightseeing tour to get acquainted with the sights. Start with the old town of Gamla Stan, where you'll wind through narrow cobblestone avenues and admire the Scandinavian architecture. Next, visit the Blue Hall at Stockholm City Hall, where the Nobel Prize Ceremony is held each year. Also, be sure to examine the remains of old warships at the Vasa Museum, Scandinavia's most popular museum, before ending your Scandinavia vacation by taking advantage of Stockholm's vibrant dining scene.

Day 3

Bergen, Gudvangen, Flaam, Borgund and Hemsedal

Following and early breakfast, depart from Bergen and travel to the Naeroy Valley amid a stunning background of snow-clad mountains. Enjoy a break with Norwegian waffles and breath-taking views down the valley from the Stalheim Hotel. Continue down the Naeroy valley to Gudvangen for a beautiful fjord cruise along the Naeroyfjord, one the narrowest and most impressive journeys in Norway. The western Norwegian fjord landscape with the Naeroyfjorden and Geirangerfjorden at the head was listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2005. According to UNESCO, the two fjords are considered archetypal fjord landscapes, almost untouched in modern times, and among the most scenic in existence. Your fjord experience has been designed with vessels constructed to maximize the sightseeing experience. They are fully electric with no noise or emissions disrupting the atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Here you will get the feeling of gliding through the fjord, very different from what you experience on the more traditional passenger vessels. Tall panoramic windows give a full view to the marvelous landscape of the calm fjord, tall mountains, and beautiful waterfalls when sitting inside the lounges. Disembark in the stunning village of Flaam where you will have some time at leisure. While there are two optional activities to choose from, you can also simply choose to enjoy a couple of hours at leisure in the village of Flaam. Alternatively, two optional activities are available (pre-booking required): Tour to the Stegastein Viewpoint or the Flamsbana train ride – please speak to your Destination Specialist for more information or to reserve.

Stockholm

Settle in for breakfast at the hotel, then meet your local for a city sightseeing of the Swedish capital. The city is built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, and is often called the “Beauty on Water.” Stockholm embraces the unique character of both its 13th century Old Town and modern high-tech architecture. Its islands are bordered by Lake Mälaren in the west and the Baltic Sea in the east where the archipelago, with its 30,000 islands, await exploration. The capital is a big city with a small-town personality. Go back 750 years in time and feel the medieval atmosphere of the Old Town "Gamla Stan" as you wander through its narrow streets. The seven-hundred-year-old cathedral of Stockholm, seat of the archbishop, will be seen during your stroll through Old Town, where you will have the opportunity see Stortorget, the place where the Stockholm Blood Bath took place. An inside visit is paid to one of the city’s best-known symbols, the City Hall with its Blue and Golden Halls, where the great Nobel banquet is celebrated every December. The tour ends at the hotel.
