European Stopover & City Map

AT YOUR SERVICE. This is a great idea for experiencing Geneva where you can choose your preferred level of accommodation. It can, of course, be modified and/or extended. As we are experts in customizing itineraries to suit your personal interests, time available and budget, we at Goway are at your service!

This 4-day stopover in Geneva lets you explore a city many have heard of, but few understand or stop to experience.

Your adventure starts with a sightseeing tour of both Geneva and nearby Annecy. You’ll see the UN headquarters, the Flower Clock, and the city’s old town. One of the city’s great draws however, is Lake Geneva, and an optional cruise is the perfect way to experience the beauty of this city’s Alpine location. You’ll cross the French border to Annecy and enjoy a guided walk of the medieval old town. A walk or bike ride along the lake is also highly recommended.

On your second full day, visit the city’s most majestic neighbour, Mont Blanc. A cable car ride takes you to stunning views of the mountain and the surrounding Alps. In the afternoon, board the scenic train from Chamonix to Montenvers, where you can view the Mer de Glace glacier and learn about the geography of this wonderful region.

STAY LONGER IN GENEVA. This idea can be extended and/or modified: Go to Day Trips for some ideas. They are just a sample as we can personalize your stay according to your interests, time available and budget. We look forward to being of service and organizing an awesome travel experience…for you!

Day 3

Charmonix and Mont-Blanc

Your day trip from Geneva begins with an unforgettable 90-minute drive across the Switzerland-France border and through the picturesque Arve Valley to Chamonix, situated at the foot of majestic Mont Blanc, the highest peak in both the Alps and Western Europe at 4,800 meters (ensure you bring your passport). You'll drive through the mountains, ride the cable car to Aiguille du Midi for breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding Alps (not available from November 4 to December 20), and ride the charming red train to Montenvers. There are many terraces and balconies at the Aiguille du Midi summit, where you can enjoy the alpine views and watch skiers zooming down toward the glacier. There's also a cafe, where you can have a hot chocolate or enjoy a light snack (own expense).

Head back down to Chamonix for lunch (included). After lunch, board the charming red train cars of the scenic rack railway to Montenvers - a railway that has been moving passengers through the mountains since 1908. In Montenvers, you can enjoy fabulous views of the Mer de Glace. This magnificent glacier is 7km long and averages just under a mile wide. Surrounded by the impressive summits of Les Drus, Les Grandes Jorasses and Les Grands Charmoz, Montenvers is the perfect place to learn about the glacier and other features of the Alps.
