Heart of the Cyclades: Athens, Syros & Paros

Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,033

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Discover the historical treasures of the Acropolis in Athens, hike to the summit of the Meteora Monasteries near Kalambaka, and spend a few days lounging on the pristine beaches of Syros and Paros in the Cyclades.

This 9-day Greek vacation takes you from Athens to the Meteora Monasteries to the islands of Syros and Paros. It features first-class or deluxe accommodations, tailor-made tours, gourmet experiences, and is perfect for travellers who want to blend an island stay with a cultural tour.

Your journey begins in Athens, the Greek capital, where each step reveals treasures of the ancient past or the vibrancy of modern culture. Head on a half-day city tour to see the famous historical landmarks, from the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first Olympics were held, to the Presidential Palace and Temple of Olympian Zeus to the legendary Acropolis, where you’ll see ancient temples like the Temple of Athena Nike and the Parthenon. Close out your tour with a visit to the new Acropolis Museum.

From Athens, board the train and ride the rails to Kalambaka, a small town at the foot of the grey rocks that are home to the monasteries of Meteora. In the afternoon, you’ll head on an easy hike into the mountains to admire the views of these spectacular monasteries perched atop the rocks. You’ll hike the Agia Triada trail up to Alsos Rock and Agia Triada Monastery before reaching Psaropetra to watch the sunset from a panoramic lookout point. You’ll stop by the Rousanu Monastery before returning back to Kalambaka. The next day, you’ll visit three more monasteries of Meteora before riding the train back to Athens.

In Athens, catch the ferry to Syros, located in the Cyclades. You’ll have a day on this picturesque island to stroll through the stony streets of its main town, Ermoupoli, enjoy lunch at one of the best restaurants in the islands, and soak in the romantic atmosphere. Ride the ferry onward to Paros, known for its traditional architecture, lovely beaches, and lively nightlife. You’ll have two nights on Paros to take advantage of the seaside villages of Parikia and Naoussa, swim and snorkel through a sunken town in the Aegean, and spend some downtime on the sunny beaches, which are among the most beautiful in the Cyclades.

After your time on Paros, you’ll ride the ferry back to Athens and have the option of joining a cooking class to learn to make some staples of Greek cuisine. The next day, head to the airport to return back home.
