Great Britain for Families

Duration
11 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,513

Head on a first-class holiday that’s perfect for the whole family. Begin in London, where you’ll explore the filming locations of the Harry Potter series before heading north to the region that inspired Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit stories. End your tour in Edinburgh, staying at the hotel where J.K. Rowling completed her series. This vacation combines history, fiction, and breathtaking scenery.

This 11-day England vacation takes you on a family-friendly adventure across the United Kingdom, from London to Newcastle to Edinburgh.

Your family vacation through England begins in London, one of the most visited cities on the planet and the capital of the United Kingdom. With history reaching back to Roman times, you’ll find plenty of great historical sites and culture in London. Take advantage of the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour and its convenient kids club to zip between popular sites in the city, such as the Tower of London, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace. Visit the British Museum where your kids can gaze upon Egyptian Mummies and head to Westminster Abbey to see the resting place of past kings and queens. The next day, take a walking tour through the city to explore the filming locations of the Harry Potter series, heading from the real-life Diagon Alley to Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station. Another day, keep the magic alive as you tour Warner Brothers Studios and see the sets of the Harry Potter films. Take a behind-the-scenes tour to see props and learn how the magical films came to life.

From London, head north to the picturesque Lake District and Bowness-on-Windermere, where you’ll head to Hill Top Farm and explore the stories of Beatrix Potter. See the gardens and farmlands where Peter Rabbit was invented before heading through the medieval village of Hawkshead and the Yewdale Valley. Continue to Newcastle, the city that helped fuel the Industrial Revolution with its shipbuilding and which stands today as one of the country’s centres of arts and business. Take advantage of the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour to jump around the city, seeing the famous sights like The Castle, which was built by the son of William the Conqueror, and the state-of-the-art Gateshead Millennium Bridge, which connects Newcastle to its sister city, Gateshead. While in Newcastle, you’ll spend half a day heading to Alnwick Castle, the second-largest inhabited castle in the UK. Known as the “Windsor of the North,” Alsnwick is home to the Northumberland family and has been featured in several movies and TV shows, including Downton Abbey.

Cross the border into Scotland and reach your final destination: the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. A city awash with medieval and Georgian architecture, Edinburgh is truly lovely. Glasgow might be largely, but Edinburgh remains the most popular city in Scotland and a great spot for food and history. Stay in the hotel where J.K. Rowling finished the last Harry Potter novel and use the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour to dart around the city’s hills, visiting the medieval Old Town and Georgian New Town as well as Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill, with its series of monuments and gorgeous views. While in Edinburgh, you’ll head on a walking food tour of the city. Learn about the city in the company of an expert guide and enjoy a tasting course of Scottish foods, including Haggis, charcuterie, and a single malt whiskey tasting (for the adults, only, of course). At the end of your stay, head to the airport to continue your onward journey.
