Greece Legends and Landscapes

12 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,979

FIRST-CLASS | SMALL GROUP TOURING: Step into a world of myth and magic where ancient art and culture flourished and philosophy was founded. This adventure takes you where legends were made. From awe-inspiring archaeological sites to sleepy towns and coastal treasures, Greece is abundant with inspiring secrets and stories for everyone.

On this magical 12-day small-group trip, discover the history behind Greek myth and walk where the two intertwine, enjoying first-class accommodations along the way.

Begin as so many great Greece tours do, in Athens. Visit the 3,000-year-old Acropolis, where the iconic Parthenon watches over the city. With the rest of the day at leisure, explore the National Archaeological Museum or local neighbourhoods like Plaka, or Koukaki if you want to escape the crowds.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Greece without a taste of the islands. Naxos invites you to sample the yields of its idyllic climate, in the form of cheeses and marmalades at a local farm. You’ll even learn to prepare your own traditional Greek lunch, best finished with a glass of kitron. Another full day immerses you in the history of Naxos, including Portara, the Temple of Apollo, and the Kastro, a medieval castle repurposed as an archaeological museum.

Explore the mountainous landscapes of the west as you’re taken to the city of Nafplio. Admire the Corinth Canal and remnants of the once mighty Venetian trading empire, including Bourtzi Castle. Climb the 857 steps to Palamidi Castle (or take a taxi, we don’t judge!) and explore the former Byzantine capital of Mystras. Relax over dinner beside the sea in Gytheio. A full day’s adventure takes you to the magical Diros Cave, truly another world underground, followed by the delightful town of Areopoli.

Test your hero’s heart as you journey into the Peloponnese where countless Greek legends were made. Today, it’s more about tranquil vineyards and fishing towns than myths and monsters, but it’ll still set your imagination dancing along with your taste buds. Overnight in Olympia, then in the morning, don’t forget to stretch for your chance to explore where the Olympic Games began! Take your time. It’s not a race! Step off the tourist trail to explore Nafpaktos, a town packed with stories, before arriving at Delphi, the ancient Greek ‘Centre of the World’ and home to the fabled oracle, Pythia.

Spend a morning learning about how important Pythia (in her various incarnations) was to Greek society, before taking in the stunning views and delicious honey treats of Itea. After one more night in Delphi, return to Athens via Arachova, at the foot of looming Mount Parnassus, home of the Muses. Pause to soak in some inspiration before you return to Athens, where you can transfer to the airport, or enjoy an extra few days in the heart of the ancient world.

Wedged between sharp cliff faces, this distinctive canal is the narrowest in the world; a streak of blue connecting the two bordering gulfs. Though most modern ships would find it tricky to navigate its 25-metre width! Upon your arrival in Nafplio, take a moment to admire Bourtzi Castle – an atmospheric Venetian fortress floating in the middle of the harbour – before sampling the local fare in a homely tavern.

Beware of beasts! Today’s journey takes us deeper into the remote Peloponnese peninsula: the heartland of Greek legend. Kardamyli is your first port of call: a picturesque fishing town with a sleepy pace. After free time for lunch in nearby Kalamata, a traditional tasting awaits at a long-standing olive farm in Olympia – where you’ll receive a masterclass in the art of olive oil production. When your day of exploring comes to an end, you’ll reflect on the highlights so far over your group dinner.
