Today is a day spent discovering the highlights of Roman Britain and Hadrian's Wall. You will be guided through the heart of the Scottish Borders and 2000 years of history to the wild last frontier of the mighty Roman Empire. Your day starts by travelling south out of Edinburgh, stopping in the historic border town of Jedburgh where you can take refreshments and view the remains of the Augustinian Abbey. You will then cross the border at Carter Bar, on the edge of the Cheviot Hills, a border crossing which has 700 years of history. From here you travel through the Northumberland National Park before reaching Hadrian's Wall where you will visit large sections of the wall at Steel Rigg. After lunch you continue your journey along the wall where your guide will recommend the best of the many sites in the area to visit. You will have time to explore sections of the wall or the remains of some of the many Roman settlements before you turn north and travel through the Galloway hills, stopping in the Victorian Spa town of Moffat. From here you travel through the Southern Uplands and the Scottish Borders before arriving back in Edinburgh for approx. 7pm.
