Venture through the classical Provencal town of Aix-en-Provence, the birthplace of Impressionist painter Cezanne, on this journey to the south of France. Stay in first-class accommodations, visit the famous Luberon Villages on a small-group excursion, and explore the town at leisure.

This 3-day French vacation showcases Aix-en-Provence in the south of France. It features first-class accommodations, small-group tours, and is a perfect addition to a longer journey through France.

Aix-en-Provence has been one of the key towns for France’s artistic community as well as its leisure class. Its ideal position near Marseille on the Cote d’Azur has made it a popular vacation destination for French and foreign tourists, while it being the birthplace of Paul Cezanne has forever given it an honoured place in art history. Staying in a 4-star hotel walking distance from the centre of town, you’ll have two nights to explore Aix-en-Provence and the surrounding countryside. On a full-day small-group tour, you’ll explore the nearby hilltop villages of Luberon, stopping in Bonnieux to see its 12th-century church, Lourmarin to admire the Renaissance castle, and Roussillon to gaze upon the ochre-coloured earth that has beguiled painters for centuries. Spend the rest of your time wandering through the Quartier Mazarin to see the 16th and 17th century mansions, exploring the medieval old town to admire the Roman columns of Aix Cathedral, or gazing upon Cezanne’s paintings at the Musee Granet.

At the end of your stay, head to the train station to continue your onward journey.

Day 2

Full day tour of the Hilltop Villages in Luberon

On this small group tour, explore the most beautiful and charming hill-top villages in Luberon, a must-do in Provence. Take a photo stop in Bonnieux, a picture perfect Provencal village, on top of which stands a 12th century church surrounded by century-old cedars. Enjoy free time in the village of Lourmarin, one of the most beautiful villages in France, famous for its Renaissance castle. Continue to Roussillon through the Roman bridge Pont Julien. The charming village of Roussillon is perched on top of the cliff of an old ochre quarry.  The village is a painter's palette, a magical place where combinations of oxides give an infinite variety of colors to the ochre and can be found in the landscape and on the frontage of its houses. Gordes offers an extraordinary vision of a village erected on the cliff and the fortified castle and church dominate the typical houses of the village which were built with stones from the rock on which they are fitting.

This evening is at leisure.
