Highlights of the Golden Ring: 2 Days Moscow to Moscow

2 Days
Prices From:
US$ 654

The Golden Ring tour, which comprises all main cities - Vladimir, Sergiev Posad, and Suzdal is the perfect "expanded" tour around the greater regions of Moscow.

Generally the Golden Ring consists of small ancient towns around Moscow. It is the most popular tourist route through the Russian provinces. During the tour you will have a chance to see Russian towns' beautiful churches, monasteries, fortresses, kremlins; enjoy the scenery of a country side, take hundreds of photos and have a wonderful time.

This 2-day round trip from Moscow uncovers some of Russia’s most historic towns around the legendary Golden Ring, lifting the lid on a country that is still a great mystery, even to many seasoned travellers.

Set out early from Moscow, bound for Sergiev Posad, home of the Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra – affectionately known as the Russian Vatican. It holds the world’s largest religious library as well. Go on to Suzdal, where you’ll spend the night, and visit Vladimir, the capital of ancient Rus for almost 200 years. You’ll see the Golden Gates, the Assumption Cathedral, and St Dimitry Cathedral. That’s not to forget Suzdal, one of the most picturesque towns in all of Russia. The iconic domes of St Euthymius, the Convent of the Intercession, and the fascinating Museum of Wooden Architecture watch over Russia’s only ‘city museum.’ In fact, Suzdal may be the greatest concentration of cultural heritage sites in Russia.

Return to Moscow for your onward journey.

Day 1

Moscow to Sergiev Posad to Suzdal

After breakfast you will be picked up at 900AM and head to Sergiev Posad. The town of got its name from Saint Serguis, who was born in the neighboring town of Radonezh and in the middle of the 14th century founded the largest and most famous Russian monastery. That monastery, known as the Holy Trinity-St.Sergius Lavra (the word "lavra" in Greek means the most significant monastery), is now something like a Russian Vatican. It also holds the Theological Seminary, the largest library of religious literature, the famous icons, historical and artistic treasures. The architectural complex of Trinity-St.Sergius Lavra was developed in the course of several centuries. The oldest church on its territory is the Holy Trinity Cathedral (1422-1423) famous for its icons painted by the renowned icon painter Andrey Rublev and the 17th century frescoes.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before travelling to Suzdal.

Day 2

Suzdal to Vladimir return to Moscow

Suzdak was first recodred in 1024. However the city has remained young and beautiful. Suzdal stands along the banks of the Kamenka river. The scenery gives you an idea of the boundlessterritory of Russia. This is a picturesque green town, where you can at the same time feel the russian country life and enjoy walks around fairytale dome convents. Inside Suzdal the atmosphere is as if nothing had changed since the nineteenth century, goats, chicken and cows graze freely next to the kremlin and monasteries, and on the grassy lanes.

The sights include St.Euthymius Monastery of Our Savior, Convent of the Intercession, Museum of Wooden Architecture. Suzdal is the only city-museum in Russia. Why? Because more than 300 monuments - which are a cultural heritage sites not only in Russia, but also the world - are concentrated in an area of 15 km. For this reason, in 1978 by UNESCO included monuments of Suzdal in the list of objects of the World heritage. Unless it is not the reason to visit this small, but very sincere city? Especially all necessary conditions for rest are created in the city: comfortable hotels and guest houses, restaurants with Russian cuisine and the magnificent Central Russian nature.
