Ice Cave Tour & Highlights of South Shore Iceland: Reykjavik to Reykjavik

Duration
6 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,115

Discover the amazing natural beauty of Iceland full of wonders such as cascading waterfalls, hot springs, bubbling mud pools, waves pounding the beach, glacial national parks and special to this tour, an Ice Cave. Also enjoy time in the capital, Reykjavik.

Explore Iceland on this Locally Escorted Group Tour that includes specially selected accommodations, quality transportation, sightseeing, special culinary experiences and a knowledgeable Tour Escort.

Iceland is a country of extreme contrasts, a place where fire and ice co-exist. It is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists mainly of a plateau of sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers. Many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands.

Begin your stay in Iceland with a night’s accommodation in Reykjavik. The next morning, have a full day to the South Shore region heading first to the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss Waterfalls. Afterwards, travel to Black Sand Beach and then Reynisfjara Beach on the Atlantic Ocean with its extraordinary rock formations and watch the waves pound the shore. Continue to Vik for 2 nights’ accommodation.

Now you get to explore the Ice Caves in Skaftafell National Park which can be found in several different locations. Usually, one cave per trip is explored and the most interesting cave available at the time.

Continue in the morning to the impressive Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall) and the Geysir Hot Spring area with its boiling mud pools and exploding geysers. Then it’s on to Thingvellir National Park with its ancient site of the original Icelandic Parliament (930 to 1798 AD) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will see the amazing sights of geysers and hot springs gushing upwards to a height of 30 metres/100 feet into the air. Return to your hotel in Reykjavik for a further 2 nights.

Reykjavik is the capital and largest city in Iceland and home to the vast majority of Iceland's inhabitants. The city itself is spread out with sprawling suburbs. The city centre, however, is a very small area full of different styled and colourful houses and with good facilities for shopping, dining and drinking.

In Reykjavik, have a tour of the city starting with Perlan to enjoy a spectacular view. You will then explore the city's highlights, including the colourful harbour neighborhood with its charming houses, restaurants and cafes, the Hallgrimskirkja Church, which houses an observation tower beneath its modern facade, the Parliament and the Cathedral. Later, head to the extraordinary Blue Lagoon located in the midst of black lava flow. It is located 50 kilometres/30 miles from Reykjavik. At the Blue Lagoon you can enjoy a dip in the warm mineral rich waters. Return to Reykjavik.
