Duration
7 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,424

What better way to get to know the treasures of Iceland with a combination of a 3 night cruise and a 3 night land tour taking in active volcanoes, spouting geysers, gushing waterfalls, hot springs and dramatic scenery. Perhaps see the Northern Lights as well.

See the sidebar on the left, for full ship information.

You join your cruise ship in Reykjavik in the evening. After embarkation, you set sail on your 3 night cruise. After an overnight on board, you arrive in Stykkisholmur on the west coast of Iceland. From here, you will be able to have an excursion to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula which has been named Iceland in Miniature because many national sights can be found in the area, including the Snæfellsjökull volcano, regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland. Also depending on the weather, you will also take a small dinghy to Breidafjordur Bay which is well known for its abundant bird life. Later, enjoy a lecture about whales in Icelandic waters. In the evening, sail towards the Westfjords just in time to experience the Northern Lights – no guarantees!

Arrive the next morning in the small town of Isafjordur, the capital of the Westfjords region. This secluded peninsula is connected to the rest of Iceland by only a narrow strip of land and is very isolated. . This is an area of dramatic fjords carved into the landscape. There will be a lecture on the Northern Lights later in the day.

The following day brings arrival at Akureyri and disembarkation. From here, the land portion of your tour begins. You will head to the Lake Myvatn area. Lake Myvatn is a shallow lake situated in an area of active volcanism in the north of Iceland not far from the Krafla volcano. The lake and its surrounding wetlands have an exceptionally rich collection of waterbirds. Stay overnight in the Akureyri region.

Continue the next morning on the highland route Kjolur back to the south of Iceland viewing spouting geysers in the geothermal area. Also visit Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall”, a spectacular sight. Overnight in the region.

Your last touring day brings you to the famous Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa located in a lava field and one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. Later, arrive in Reykjavik for a city tour and overnight after which your land and sea tour of Iceland comes to an end.

The Ocean Diamond is a modern, stable super-yacht, and one of the largest of our small expedition ships. Carrying a maximum of 189 passengers, and with two stabilizers and an ice-strengthened hull, this outstanding vessel is ideal for polar expeditions.

As one of the newest, fastest, and most eco-friendly ships in Antarctica, it is also one of the most comfortable. There are 101 elegantly designed cabins and suites, all with exterior views, and expansive common spaces, a club lounge, and a spacious restaurant. The ship offers numerous adventure options, plus on-board features such as interactions with photography instructors. After a full day of exploration, passengers can relax, browse books or DVDs in the well-stocked polar library.

Passengers traveling to one of the world's most remote destinations will also do so in a "greener" fashion; the Ocean Diamond is the first ship in Antarctica, and in polar to offer certified Carbon Neutral voyages.
