Iceland Winter Gem self-drive with International Airfare

Duration
5 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,119

Explore the winter landmarks of southwestern Iceland on this self-drive tour. Travelling from Reykjavik to the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle, you’ll pass by volcanoes, hike behind waterfalls, and enjoy the warm waters of Iceland’s famous geothermal lagoons.

This 5-day Iceland self-drive takes you to the most popular landmarks in southwestern Iceland. International airfare is included in the price. For the independent minded traveller who likes to make up their own mind as to the itinerary they would enjoy and the pace at which they wish to travel, Goway makes it easy to plan a vacation. Whether it is a self-drive car with pre-booked accommodation or a rental car, we have several suggested itineraries in Iceland which lend themselves perfectly to this type of arrangement. We also offer self-drives in other parts of the world.

After flying into Iceland and collecting your car at Keflavik Airport, you’ll have the rest of your day to explore the area as you wish. Consider taking the opportunity to visit the nearby Blue Lagoon thermal spa where you can enjoy a dip in the warm thermal, mineral-rich waters. Spend the night in Laugardalur to the east of Reykjavik. The next day, follow the fertile countryside along the south shore until you reach Hekla Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland. Nearby, you’ll find spectacular waterfalls, including Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss. If you wish, you can hike behind the thundering curtain of water at Seljalandsfoss. That evening, relax in the waters of the Seljavallalaug geothermal pool, hidden in a narrow valley at the foot of a mountain. Aside from enjoying the naturally-heated water, you’ll have a chance to see the Northern Lights.

The next morning, continue your Iceland vacation by touring the Golden Circle. Start by heading to Geysir, with its bubbling mud pools and spouting hot springs. After admiring the mighty Strokkur geyser, head to Gulfoss, the “Golden Waterfall,” a spectacular sight when frozen in the midst of its torrential cascade. Your final stop is Thingvellir National Park, the meeting place of Iceland’s ancient parliament.

The next morning, return to Keflavik International Airport and return your car. This self-drive of the Golden Circle makes for an excellent add-on to a larger trip to Iceland or European vacation.
