From Prague you depart to the Karlstejn Castle, which was built in the 14th century by the Czech King and Roman Emperor. At that time, it housed the treasure of the Holy Roman Empire, including the coronation jewels. The castle has been reconstructed in a number of styles, including Gothic and more recently Renaissance. The Castle also contains the largest portrait gallery of former Czech rulers. There are a number of towers visitors can climb, including the separately fortified, 60m tall Great Tower.
