A relaxing cruise meandering through the Burgundy countryside on a luxury hotel barge will introduce you a wonderful and interesting region of France. Enjoy visiting ancient Chateaux, quaint villages, renowned wineries and wine tasting plus much more while dining in style on board.

Starting in Paris, you will be picked up and driven south to join your luxury hotel barge, La Belle Époque, at Venary-les- Laumes in Upper Burgundy. Settle in after which, enjoy champagne and canopies. Throughout your cruise, you can avail yourself of the sun deck and spa pool facilities on board. And of course, relish the excellent meals provided. The following morning, set sail down the canal passing through pretty French countryside. Your first visit will be to the charming village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain made famous when it was the venue for the French movie success “Chocolat”. Continue to the medieval town of Semur-En-Auxois. Here you can view from Mount Auxois, the site of last battle between the Gauls and the Romans in 52 BC at Alesia. The remainder of the day is a leisurely cruise past numerous small typical villages of the region.

The next day brings a visit to the 18th Century Forges de Buffon, an historical monument and also to the UNESCO world heritage site of the Abbaye de Fontanay dating back to 1118 AD with its peaceful gardens, ponds and fascinating cloisters. Later continue your cruise finally mooring at Ravieres.sur-Surein, one of the most beautiful villages in France where you will experience a typical French market. The afternoon is spent leisurely cruising through the local countryside arriving at Ancy-le-Franc where the boat will moor for the night and where you will dine at a local restaurant.

The next day is a visit to the 16th Century Chateau d’Ancy-le-Franc, a masterpiece with the largest collection of Renaissance murals in France. Enjoy the magnificent gardens and parkland here. Later cruise through picturesque countryside and experience going through locks. Moor at Lezinnes.

Cruise this morning to your final mooring place, Tanlay. Here you can go cycling, walking or simply explore the nearby picturesque village of St. Vinnemer. After lunch, you will have a tour of the vineyards of Chablis including a private wine tasting. This evening is the Captain’s farewell dinner.

Next day, you are returned to Paris with hopefully fond memories of your luxury barge cruise.

Day 1


Today you will be met at the Hotel Westminster Hotel in Paris at 1:45pm, and transferred to the barge moored in Venarey-les-Laumes. Please ensure you arrive at least 15-20 minutes earlier than the meeting time.

A full crew is there to welcome you onboard, with champagne and canapes. You will have time to settle into your cabin, then enjoy your first dinner aboard and an introduction to Burgundy's excellent cuisine.

Although she originally carried logs from Burgundy to Paris, she was skillfully converted into a delightful hotel barge. She is now the perfect vessel for cruising the Upper Burgundy Canal with its towpaths that are ideal for walking and cycling. She has been designed with both elegance and passenger comfort in mind and offers a sun deck with spa pool, wood-panelled saloon/dining room and other luxury amenities. Day 2

Venarey-les-Laumes to Montbard

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, followed by either a stroll around the hilltop village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, where the film 'Chocolat' was set, or a tour of the medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois. On the way from the summit of Mount Auxois, you will also look at Alesia, where the last battle between the Gauls and Romans took place in 52 B.C. and visit the impressive museum. After lunch you will cruise through woodlands and rolling fields with great towpath biking and walking opportunities past the tiny canal side villages of Nogent, Courcelles and Les Granges. Dinner on board.

Day 3

Montbard to Ravieres

This morning you will cruise along with an excellent towpath for walking or cycling, passing the 18th century Forges de Buffon. Today you will also be escorted to the exquisite World Heritage UNESCO site of Abbaye de Fontenay founded by St Bernard in 1118. Representing a distinctive example of early Cistercian architecture and virtually intact, Fontenay allows an exceptional glimpse of Cistercian life and industry with its peaceful gardens and ponds and fascinating cloisters, dormitories and scriptorium. You will return to the barge and continue your cruise to Ravieres. Dinner on board.

Day 4

Ravieres to Ancy-Le-Franc

This morning you will enjoy a visit to medieval Noyers-sur-Serein to admire the local produce, colours and delights of the traditional French market. You can also wander the town ramparts in this, one of the most beautiful villages in France. You will return to the hotel barge, and after a lunch on board, enjoy a gentle afternoon cruise past grazing Charolais cattle, to moor in Ancy-le-Franc. Dinner ashore at a local restaurant.

Day 5

Ancy-Le-Franc to Lezinnes

This morning you will visit Chateau d'Ancy-le-Franc. This beautifully symmetrical, 16th century masterpiece contains France's biggest collection of Renaissance murals and is set in magnificent gardens and parkland. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a gentle cruise as your hotel barge continues along the Burgundy Canal and descends through the picturesque locks to moor at Lezinnes. Dinner on board.

Day 6

Lezinnes to Tanlay

After breakfast you will enjoy a leisurely cruise to the final mooring point at Tanlay. Here you have the opportunity to cycle or walk into the picturesque village of Saint Vinnemer. Following lunch, you will tour the vineyards and town of Chablis, dating back to Roman times. Enjoy a private wine tasting at a renowned winemaker such as the family-run Domaine Regnard, which makes the most of the region's wonderful local terroir to produce high quality wines, before returning to the barge. Perhaps a stroll through the grounds of nearby Chateau de Tanlay before the Captain's Farewell Dinner on board.

After breakfast, it is time to disembark La Belle Epoque. You will be transferred to the Hotel Westminster Hotel (Paris) by 12 noon. You are free to make your onward arrangements from here.
