Duration
8 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,036

MODERATE | TAILOR-MADE: Taking you to historical landmarks like Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace to the enigmatic rocks of Stonehenge to the birthplace of the Bard, this is the ideal combination for England first-timers, or return visitors wanting to go beyond its timeless capital. Airfare included!

This 8-day trip to London is ideal for a first-timer or return visitor who wants to take the city at their own pace, choosing their own itinerary, before embarking on an organised overnight trip to Avebury, Oxford, the Cotswolds, and the Roman ruins of Bath.

It’s been said time and again that (s)he who is tired of London is tired of life. The British capital offers endless things to see and do and is going to be a little different for every traveller who visits. You might want to spend the day sightseeing the big attractions like the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, or the British Museum. Perhaps take a day trip out to Hampton Court Palace or Windsor Castle. You’ll have three full days to enjoy the city, not including your arrival day, so make of London what you will before embarking on your trip out to Avebury.

Your next two days are all about the incredible history of southwest England, starting with Avebury and its famous stone circle. You’ll also see the Cherhill White Horse, a figure cut into a local chalk hillside in the late 18th century. Visit the lovely village of Wilshire on your way to historic Bath. You’ll have time to explore here on your own, soaking up the legacy of the ancient Romans before overnighting in Cirencester. The following day, it’s time to explore the Cotswolds, and the classic view of old England they portray. Explore the rivers and perfectly preserved villages that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. On the way to Oxford, stop in Bampton, a frequent filming location for Downton Abbey. It’s then time to explore the renowned 900-year-old university itself before returning to London for your final included night.

Day 3

Stonehenge with Afternoon in Bath

Perhaps the most famous prehistoric monument in the world, and an acclaimed world heritage site, Stonehenge stands alone in a vast empty tract of the Salisbury Plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years and through the millennia it has been home to pagan religions, revered as a site of spiritual worship, and in more recent years, it has been the source of much public debate. What was this vast collection of stones intended for? Was it designed to observe the moon, as a temple to the sun, or is it an elaborate cemetery? Who were the people who carried and carved these 40-ton rocks? Though the secrets of this historic site are likely to remain unrevealed, this remarkable and mysterious feat of ancient engineering and design is sure to be enjoyed, whether in spite or because of its enigmatic history.

Next, you'll head to Bath, arriving in time for lunch. With fabulous restaurants, tea houses, sandwich and coffee shops, not to mention all the classic British pubs, there are no shortage of options for an excellent meal. Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture.

Following the scenic drive into the heart of the city, there will be plenty of time to explore at your leisure before the return voyage to London, which you will arrive in at approximately at 7:30 pm.

Day at Leisure

Today is totally free and at leisure. You can take advantage of any optional activities available or simply relax.

Day 5

London - Stratford-upon-Avon

Leaving London on a small group adventure with like-minded explorers in tow, your adventure into Shakespeare's England begins with a visit to the World Heritage site of Blenheim Palace. Learn the history of this three hundred year-old masterpiece, explore the gardens, or take a ride on the estate's very own miniature railway line.

After the palace and a lunch break, the trip continues to the Rollright Standing Stones. An ancient complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, they are found on the crest of the Cotswold Hills and mark the borderlands between the great counties of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.

Round off the afternoon with a visit to the Hook Norton Brewery where you'll learn about the production of beer in one of the Cotswolds' most beautiful areas and savour a lovingly produced, local drink. Soon after, a short drive will deliver you to Stratford-upon-Avon, your base for the next two nights.

Day 6

Stratford-upon-Avon

The day begins with a trip to Warwick Castle, one of England's best preserved medieval castles. Dating back to the time of William the Conqueror, Warwick Castle is often named as one of the best historic monuments in Britain.

In the early afternoon, return to Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace and home of playwright William Shakespeare. Here you'll visit Shakespeare's birthplace, the Tudor thatched cottage and gardens of his wife, or Mary Arden's farm where Shakespeare's mother once lived. You can also explore the narrow streets of this medieval market town, visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, or take a stroll along the banks of the River Avon where you can rent a boat or take the ferry across the river.

During your overnight in Stratford, soak up the ambience of this charming and historic town.

Day 7

Stratford-upon-Avon - London

Departing Stratford-upon-Avon, you'll set out toward the Cotswolds, a huge area that covers five counties and offers a variety of unique landscapes and delightful villages. The rolling hills, communities, and farms of this area give you a glimpse of times-past, to an England with a gentler pace of life.

The first stop of the day is in Stow on the Wold, the most highly elevated of the Cotswolds Towns. The large market square is a testament to the huge markets and fairs that were once held in this hill-top market town. Continuing onward, you'll next visit Bourton on the Water, found nestled in the rolling Cotswolds hills. Known as 'The Venice of the Cotswolds', you'll have time to explore this ancient village that has stood on this spot since Anglo-Saxon times.

Later in the day, you'll visit 'Broadway Tower.' The second highest point in the Cotswolds, this 18th century hilltop folly provides excellent views of the surrounding area and public access paths allow guests to wander at leisure. A cafe for refreshments and - for a small fee of up to EUR5 per person - guests can additionally visit the nearby museum with its exhibits detailing the tower's colourful past and roof viewing platform.

Your final stop of the tour is in the City of Oxford. Here, you have time to explore the beautiful listed buildings, explore the precincts of the colleges, and climb one of the vantage points to take in the skyline. For those seeking to avoid the stairs, consider visiting the Ashmolean Museum where you'll find an excellent collection of art and antiques. After your time in Oxford, you will be returned to London.
