Perhaps the most famous prehistoric monument in the world, and an acclaimed world heritage site, Stonehenge stands alone in a vast empty tract of the Salisbury Plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years and through the millennia it has been home to pagan religions, revered as a site of spiritual worship, and in more recent years, it has been the source of much public debate. What was this vast collection of stones intended for? Was it designed to observe the moon, as a temple to the sun, or is it an elaborate cemetery? Who were the people who carried and carved these 40-ton rocks? Though the secrets of this historic site are likely to remain unrevealed, this remarkable and mysterious feat of ancient engineering and design is sure to be enjoyed, whether in spite or because of its enigmatic history.
Next, you'll head to Bath, arriving in time for lunch. With fabulous restaurants, tea houses, sandwich and coffee shops, not to mention all the classic British pubs, there are no shortage of options for an excellent meal. Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture.
Following the scenic drive into the heart of the city, there will be plenty of time to explore at your leisure before the return voyage to London, which you will arrive in at approximately at 7:30 pm.
