Magical Norway Coach Tour: Oslo to Oslo

Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,217

Discover the majestic, stunning and dramatic Norwegian fjords together with journeys across the hinterland over snow-clad mountain peaks. Enjoy the beautiful city of Bergen and spend time in Norway’s capital, Oslo. Add stops in quaint towns and villages and your visit to Norway is complete.

Explore Norway on this Locally Escorted Group Tour that includes specially selected accommodations, quality transportation, sightseeing, special culinary experiences and a knowledgeable Tour Escort.

After a night in Norway’s capital, Oslo, travel to the beautiful Hallingdal Valley where you will visit the attractive villages of Gol and Geilo after which continue to the impressive Hardangerfjord, the third longest fjord in the world which supports a busy salmon industry exported across the world. Finish up at Lofthus, one of Edvard Grieg's favourite haunts and one of the most beautiful points of the fjord for an overnight stay.

The next day, cross the splendid Hardangerfjord by travelling across the newly opened Hardanger Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridge spans in the world. Arrive in Bergen, commonly thought to be Norway’s most beautiful city and have an afternoon tour which includes St. Marys Church, Haakon's Hall, the colourful and picturesque fish markets and the old Bryggen area district. This is the only surviving trace of the Hanseatic League, the trade alliance that once spanned Northern Europe all the way into Russia. Overnight in Bergen.

The following morning, head to the historical town of Voss with its stunning background of snow-clad mountains. Board a train across the mountain tops to Myrdal to transfer to the Flam Railway, which Lonely Planet labelled the world’s best train ride in 2014. It is also one of the world’s steepest, and certainly one of its most beautiful. Your destination is the charming town of Flam. After some free time here, board a ferry for a breath-taking crossing along the Aurland & Neroy fjords which are branches of the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway.

Disembark in Gudvangen and continue by coach through one of the largest tunnels of Norway eventually reaching Loen for overnight. Loen is beautifully situated between mountains, lakes and fjords.

The next day, you can have an optional excursion to the Briksdal Glacier, an arm of Europe's largest Glacier. After a visit, there will be free time. Later, leave Loen and continue through the Norwegian mountains to the famous point of Dalsnibba, an observation point where you can have a spectacular view of the famous Geiranger Fjord. Continue to Geiranger for a 2 night stay. Before dinner, there will be a special tour of the Veteran car collection of The Mjelva family from the 1920's and 1930's. They are still in excellent condition.

The following morning, take the ferry, crossing the dramatic and impressive Geiranger Fjord situated among lush mountains and wild waterfalls to Hellesylt with its beautiful unspoiled landscape. Then travel to Trollstigen or Troll's path, one of the most dramatic areas in Norway. Travel the 11 hairpin turns on this stunning stretch of road that winds its way along just over 100 kilometres of incredible landscape. Later return to Geiranger.

Next head to Oslo via Lom where you will admire the oldest wooden church in Norway dating back to the 12th Century. Arrive in Oslo and stay 2 nights.

Oslo is often Scandinavia’s most underrated capital, but it is one that’s worth visiting. A tour will take you to Oslo Cathedral, the Royal Castle, the Parliament and the Opera House plus the unusual Vigeland Sculpture Park. Spend an afternoon at the Hadeland Glassverk just outside Oslo. This 18th century glassworks combines years of tradition with the latest designs to create all sorts of innovative and beautiful pieces.
