Mykonos Escape, Greek Island

Duration
4 Days
Prices From:
US$ 593

Spend time discovering the charms of this sophisticated Greek island with its old town and beautiful but deserted beaches with opportunities to swim, snorkel and scuba dive. The itinerary includes a walking tour, a bus tour and a cruise.

This is a great idea for experiencing Mykonos Stopover where you can choose your preferred level of accommodation.  It can, of course, be modified and/or extended.  As we are experts in customizing itineraries to suit your personal interests and budget, we at Goway are at your service!

Check into your hotel for overnight and then, the next morning, commence your exploration of the island. Start with a walking tour of the old town with its small narrow streets after which travel by bus to the island’s beaches and inland areas. Stop at Ano Mera, a small village where you can take a stroll and discover its tavernas and pastry shops. Then it’s on to the Monastery of Paleokastro. Later continue to Kalafatis Beach for a snack or coffee after which return to Mykonos town.

The following day brings a boat cruise on a Caique, a vessel of Turkish origin. Sail to the uninhabited island of Dragonissi, only accessible by boat. It is known for its beautiful coastline and caves. Here you can go diving or just relax. Continue on to the deserted Frangias Beach for a swim or to snorkel or simply take in the scenery after which have lunch. The last stop is at Super Paradise Beach with its crystal clear water and pristine beach for another opportunity to swim before returning to Mykonos town.

STAY LONGER

Why not STAY LONGER and take a day trip to Delos, the mythological birth place of Apollo. It is one of Greece’s most important archaeological sites.

Day 2

City and Island Tour

The tour starts by walking the small and narrow streets of Mykonos, where you will have the chance to see the famous windmills, small churches and learn about the old town. Did you know that according to mythology, Mykonos was formed from the petrified bodies of giants killed by Hercules? And did you know that the island took its name from the grandson of Apollo, "Mykonos"?

You will then explore the island by bus, visiting some of the most famous beaches and the inner landscapes. In Ano Mera, the second main village of the island, you will have some free time to stroll around. In the small central square you will find tavernas and pastry shops serving traditional sweets. Some sights worth visiting are the Monastery of Paleokastro on the opposite hill where one can see the remains of a Byzantine castle. There are remains of the ancient fort of the site and also of graves of the Geometric period. The next stop is Kalafatis Beach, where you will have time to relax and have a coffee or a refreshment (at own expense), before going back to town.

Duration4 Hours
Day 3

South Coast Cruise

Today you will travel south on a "caique" boat. These are of Turkish origin and were initially used for fishing and transportation, but thanks to its size, was then adopted as a boat cruise. The first stop is at Dragonissi (weather permitting), well known for its beautiful coastline and caves. Uninhabited, rocky, it is a well secluded refuge for the Mediterranean monachus seal which you might see swimming around, therefore the area is under the protection of the Natura 2000 project. This area is accessible only by boat, that is the reason why the landscape is so pristine and the atmosphere so serene. Enjoy a dive in the azure waters of the islet or relax on its secluded beach. The next stop is at the deserted beach of Frangias for swimming, snorkeling and lunch (wine, ouzo and Greek "mezedes"). The only visitors are tourists on boats who stay anchored for a couple of hours. The beach is long so they might not disturb you at all. The final stop is at Super Paradise beach for a coffee break, another swim and water sports.
