European Stopover & City Map

Spend 5 nights in Nice situated on the Cote D’Azure on the Mediterranean Sea, the second most visited destination in France after Paris. This is mainly due to its attractive location and climate. However there is more to Nice than its natural beauty. The next morning, you will have a tour of the highlights which include La Promenade des Anglais, its famous seafront, the Russian Cathedral with its onion-shaped dome built in 1912, Cimiez Hill, an historic neighbourhood built on the site of an ancient Roman settlement, the Louise Nucera Library with its 200,000 items, the Matisse Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and a photo stop at the panoramic viewpoint, Mont Boron. There will also be a stop at the famed Florian chocolate factory often visited by Matisse as far back as the 19th Century.

The next day, you will head to Cannes by highway from Nice. Upon arrival in Cannes you will enjoy a panoramic city tour including le Boulevard de la Croisette, le Palais des festivals, le Marche Forville, the old town with the pedestrian area, and the Suquet area with its 16th century church. Here you will have a stop to enjoy some free time. Continue to Antibes by the sea side, passing throughout Golf Juan (famous for its beach), Juan les Pins (known for its casino, and fashion boutiques) and Cap d'Antibes (one of the most luxurious areas of the Riviera). You can see the hotel Eden Roc, one of the most expensive hotels where film stars stay during the film festival. It has the best yachting harbour with the "Mole", an area where the most beautiful yachts of Europe are anchored. You will have some time here at leisure. The next stop is Cagnes, a medieval city from the 14th century. Here you can see the hippodrome and the Renoir museum. You will then return to Nice via the coastal road.

Your destination the next morning is Port Grimaud on the River Giscle on the north shore of the Golfe de Saint-Tropez. The area is known as the "Venice of Provence" because of its very special kind of architecture where streets are canals and boats anchor near the houses. The houses are designed to be individually different, painted with soft pastel colours of ochre, pink and turquoise and feature shutters with wrought iron balconies with roofs of terracotta Roman tiles. You will then continue on to Saint Tropez, playground of the stars and international socialites. There will be a stop here, allowing you free time to explore the area. In the afternoon enjoy a cruise on the Gulf of Saint Tropez to view the luxury villas of the stars. Then drive along La Corniche d'Or (golden coast road) stretching between Cannes and Saint Raphael - Sainte-Maxime, eventually returning to Nice.

The following day takes you to Monaco. En route, you will visit Villefranche/Cap Ferrat known for its beautiful bay and 16th Century citadel. Continue through Beaulieu eventually arriving in Monaco. The capital Monte Carlo is an ideal place to simply stroll around and explore traversing its narrow streets. Highlights will be the magnificent harbour and the renowned Monte Carlo Casino. On your return to Nice, you will stop at the Fragonard perfume factory and the attractive medieval stone village of Eze.

Day 2

Nice City Tour

Visit the Castel Park overlooking the Bay and Old Town, this was once inhibited by the Greeks over 2600 years ago and was a huge trading town. Drive along the port and admire the Turin buildings. Contemplate the Old in Place Garibaldi and the New along Promenade des Arts (Modern Art Museum, Sosno's library, Acropolis center...). Arrive in Cimiez, which was the winter home of Queen Victoria. Stop at the Roman Arenas of Cemenelum. Here you can walk among the magnificent olive trees garden and the 15th c. park of the Franciscan Monastery. Pass by the exceptional Russian Cathedral, the largest one outside Russia. Return by Promenade des Anglais passing its famous landmarks and "Belle Epoque" buildings. End the tour with a visit to the flower market in the Old Town. Here you will have the option to be dropped there or driven back to the hotel.

Day 3

Tour Provence Countryside - Cannes, Grasse, Gourdon & St. Paul Ex Nice

Arrive in Cannes and walk the famous Croisette Boulevard, by the Film Festival Palace, designer shops and smart sandy beaches. Drive through the charming Countryside of Provence to Grasse, world capital of the perfume industry, for a guided tour of a perfumery or spend free time visiting the old town. View the Alps, valleys and spectacular coastline from the amazing perched medieval village of Gourdon. After lunch, wind down the charming Loup Gorges, and taste the Riviera's speciality flower sweets at the traditional Florian Confectionary. Take a photo stop at a provencal jewel : Tourrettes/ Loup. End the tour in the 2nd most visited village in France : St Paul de Vence, home of Impressionist painters, with ancient cobblestone lanes, ramparts and art galleries.

Day 4

Saint Tropez

Exit the highway and drive thru the Maure forest. In Sainte Maxime, jump on board of a little ferry boat to cross the mythic bay passing along luxury yachts. Most popular jet-setters spot in France, Saint Tropez charm mixes designers that created the 'St Trop' fashion style, massive yachts and a genuine atmosphere of a fishing Provencal village. Experience St Trop lifestyle starting with a drink or a cake at Senequier, meeting place for celebrities before walking the citadelle steps offering the best 360 degree view. Visit the Annonciade museum. You do not want to miss the busy provencal market gathering place for all Tropeziens. Then continue to Port Grimaud "little Venice" and admire the canals and bridges.

Tour Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze ex Nice

Experience panoramic views over Nice. On the Middle Corniche, stop at Eze -- a perched medieval village, with its crafts shops and breathtaking views. Take a guided tour of a perfumery, the true essence of Provence. Visit the Old Town of Monaco. You can visit the Palace -- open June/Oct. -- 8 pp -- Cathedral, Cousteau Oceanographic Museum -- 14 pp -- and see the Changing of the Palace Guards. Take a tour of Monte-Carlo and drive the amazing Grand Prix circuit. Free time at Casino Square: amuse yourselves with luxurious shopping, strolling through stunning gardens, see the megayachts and chic casinos, or simply watch the "rich and beautiful" in their favourite haunt. Drive along the spectacular Lower Corniche harbouring ancient villages and modern marinas and admire the Bay of Villefranche.
