This 6-day Norway vacation showcases the best of the country, taking you from picturesque Bergen to the mountain village Flam and finally to the capital, Oslo.
Your journey begins in Bergen, a majestic seaside town that’s surrounded by seven hills and seven fjords. Bergen served as one of the most important Nordic seaports and the capital of Norway in the Middle Ages. A Hop-on Hop-off bus tour will swing you by the city’s famous highlights, including the home of composer Edvard Grieg, the Fish and Flower Market, St. Mary’s Church, the Floibanen Funicular, and, of course, the colourful gabled pack houses of Bryggen that line the harbour.
After touring Bergen and enjoying its charming atmosphere, you’ll head along the Aurlandsfjorden to the village of Flam, located alongside the mighty Sognefjord, the largest fjord in the country. While the incredible mountain railway is Flam’s main attraction, the panorama of surrounding peaks and the quaint atmosphere of the village offer plenty of their own charms. During your time in Flam, you’ll head into the heart of the countryside by boating along the fjords to get up close to villages and waterfalls. You’ll learn about the history of the area and then hike to a mountain farm where you can sample fresh goat cheese and breathe in the clear mountain air.
Your final stop on trips to Norway is Oslo, one of the world’s northernmost capitals. Oslo might live in the shadow of Stockholm or Copenhagen, but it’ll surprise you with its combination of urban modernism and gorgeous natural surroundings. You can head to the Viking Ship Museum to see 9th-century Viking longboats or stroll through the skyscraper district known affectionately as the Barcode. You can close out your Norway vacation by hiking through the hills and parks inside the city limits or by sampling the vibrant restaurant scene.
