Obidos - What make it one of Europe's most romantic medieval villages are its incredibly picturesque cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses filled with geraniums and bougainvillea, Gothic doorways and windows, whitewashed churches and dazzling tiles -- all encircled by the walls of a 12th century castle.
Batalha - The Monastery of the Dominicans of Batalha was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians at the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.
Alcobaca - Alcobaca is known for its principal attraction, the Abbey of Santa Maria. It is now Portugal's largest church, and one of its outstanding architectural monuments.
Nazare - It is said that the picturesque village of Nazare got its name from a statue of the Virgin Mary brought to town from Nazareth by a monk in the 4th century. Today it is Portugal's most famous fishing village, having always drawn visitors to its beach and genuinely colorful life.
