This 7 day moderate, escorted coach tour takes in many of Italy’s most iconic highlights. Begin with the historic highlights of Rome and a visit to the Vatican.  Then time spent on the Amalfi Coast offers the chance to experience the amazing food, stunning views and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Pompei,  that make this a dream destination for many. 

No visit to Rome is completel without touring the historic Colosseum, famous for its gladiators. Then explore the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, once the epicentre of ancient Rome. The next morning you will experience the spectacular history and art of the Vatican before touring impressive St Peter’s Basilica. 

You head to Naples the following day. Enjoy the historic centre of Naples and try some traditional pizza that will show you why Naples is a foodie capital! Your afternoon is spent in Pompeii, a once thriving ancient city, destroyed by volcanic ash from nearby Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. 

Your fourth day is yours to do as you like in stunning Positano. Stroll around town, go for a swim or make your way to surrounding towns. Take in the views from Ravello, a village suspended 350 metres above the sea or head to  Amalfi. 

Your last day will be spent back in Rome experiencing the beauty and history of what was once the centre of the western world. The next morning return to the airport for your onward travels

Ancient Rome Morning

Walking through history, visit the Colosseum, symbol of the ancient Roman times, and its surrounding area, the most important and beautiful archaeological site in the world Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, the Colosseum is one of the most famous monuments in the world; it was used for gladiatorial fights(munera), wild animal hunts (venationes) and, with the arena filled with water, simulated sea battles (naumachiae). The Palatine Hill, where the city of Rome was founded and the place that became the most exclusive neighborhood where emperors and patrician families built opulent palaces. The Roman Forum was for centuries the center of Roman public and economic life, where the most important structures of the ancient city were located.

Vatican Museums and St. Peter's AM

Enjoy one of the most important art collections in the world and the masterpieces of St. Peter's Basilica. Following our knowledgeable and passionate guide, the tour begins at the Vatican Museums with its immense collection built up by the Popes throughout the centuries. The itinerary includes the Pio Clementino Hall, the Laocoon, and Apollo Belvedere, the Maps Gallery, the Candelabra Gallery, the Tapestries Gallery, and the Sistine Chapel to admire the breathtaking frescos by Michelangelo, one of the most celebrated masterpieces in the world. From the Museum you will exit directly into St Peter's Basilica, the most important Christian Church in the world, the heart of the Catholic religion, where you will admire, among others, Michelangelo's masterpiece La Pieta and the impressive Baldachin Altar by Bernini. Tour ends in St Peter's Square, dominated by Michelangelo's imposing Cupola and surrounded by the famous Bernini's double Colonnade.

Rome - Naples - Pompeii - Positano

Today, you have an early departure from Rome where you will travel in a comfortable air-conditioned coach bus, accompanied by a multilingual tour leader. Head towards Naples. Upon arrival in Naples, enjoy a walking tour of the historical centre to admire the Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace, the Gallery of Umberto I, and the San Carlo Opera House. Stop for lunch where you will enjoy typical Neapolitan pizza. After lunch, continue to the ancient city of Pompeii and learn about this important ancient Roman city which was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvio in 79 A.D. and buried under 4 to 6 meters of ash and stones. You will also enjoy a short visit to a coral and cameo factory. After the tour, proceed to Positano via the breathtaking Amalfi coast drive with views of picturesque fishing villages. Enjoy the rest of the evening at your leisure.

Today, you are free to discover the beauty of this wonderful coastal village or to explore the area. You can take a local bus and visit Ravello or Amalfi or perhaps take a plunge into the water of the Mediterranean sea.
