Prague & the Surrounds
- Duration
- 5 Days
- Prices From:
- US$ 610
Few cities in Europe can capture the romance and uniqueness of Prague. A few days visiting the surrounding towns is the perfect way to extend a Prague city break, or enhance a return visit.
This 5-day Prague trip is packed with excursions to the neighbouring towns, returning each night to the romantic City of Spires.
The cultural heart of Bohemia, Prague can seem both part of, and entirely separate from the rest of Europe. If this is your first visit, take a few extra days to explore the Old Jewish Quarter, Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock, or Wenceslas Square to learn about Prague’s emerging role in today’s Europe.
Your first trip takes you to Kutna Hora, a former silver mining town with several must-see sights. The St Barbara Cathedral looms over the valley in all its gothic splendour, while the former royal mint is a reminder of the town’s former wealth and influence. Its most famous attraction however is the eerie Sedlec Ossuary. This medieval chapel contains the remains of thousands of people, arranged into complex decorative formations, including coats of arms, crosses, and even a chandelier.
Terezin is a sobering day trip north of Prague. A former stronghold against northern invasion, the town became a place of horrors during Nazi occupation. You’ll take a walking tour of the former Nazi ghetto and concentration camp, with time for reflection on this modern tragedy in Czech history.
Your last full day takes you to Cesky Krumlov, arguably the Czech Republic’s most beautiful town outside Prague, and a staple on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Your tour includes the chateau and castle, known for its beautiful theatre. Medieval Bohemia seems to come to life in this once influential town, making it an essential stop before returning to Prague.
