Wine has been produced in Santoini since ancient times, and during the Middle Ages the wine of Santorini became famous worldwide under the influence of the Republic of Venice. Wine was made on the island in Greek and Roman times, but the region became particularly noteworthy in the Middle Ages when Crusaders captured control of the island from the Byzantine empire after Constantinople was sacked in 1203. Today you will have the opportunity to visit 3 traditional wineries and meet the wine producers. Here you will learn about the unique viticulture, plus have a chance to sample a number of different wines as well as an assortment of Greek cheese and olives.
