Spain to Italy by Sea

Duration
8 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,423

Enjoy a revitalizing cruise aboard the five-star Norwegian Epic and explore the great cities of the central Mediterranean. Marvel at the architectural wonders of Gaudi in Barcelona, enjoy the regional seafood in Naples, and visit the Spanish Steps that charmed the Romantic poets John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley in Rome.

Embark on an 8-day voyage that visits three of the great cities of the Mediterranean and enjoy the pleasures of the Norwegian Epic while you sail between them.

You begin your adventure in Barcelona, the heart of Catalonia and Spain’s artistic capital. You’ll get lost in the labyrinthine streets of Barri Gotic and feel like you’re visiting an amusement park made for lovers of fine art when you witness the surreal wonders of Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia. And don’t forget the food, wine, and fashion. Shop the Passeig de Gracia, Spain’s ritziest shopping boulevard, and end your day with a glass of cava (Catalan sparkling wine) and a vibrant dish from one of the many world-renowned restaurants the city boasts.

After exploring Barcelona, take to sea on the Norwegian Epic and enjoy various amenities as you travel between cities. Stay on deck and bask in the warm winds of the Mediterranean. Alternatively, head below and enjoy 15 dining options, take in a Broadway show, or try your luck at the casino.

Your next port is Naples, the treasure of the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Naples boasts a distinct culture, so be sure to experience its diverse flavor in the brief time you’re there. Take time to enjoy a Neapolitan pizza (Naples is the birthplace of pizza) in between your time strolling the Piazza del Plebiscito or investigating the city’s many subterranean caverns. As well, the ancient city of Pompeii, which was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., is nearby, so a daytime excursion is a viable option.

Your final stop is Rome, Italy’s capital and the heart of the ancient Roman Empire. Rome is a city that never ceases to dazzle even the most experienced traveler. It’s also a city that has never stopped growing over its two thousand year history, so taking in its many wonders is nearly impossible. Visit the Spanish Steps and gaze up at the window where John Keats spent the last months of his life. Enter St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City and marvel at Michelangelo’s masterpieces within the Sistine Chapel. Walk the stones of the Roman Forum and the Colosseum and stand in awe of the empire that thrived there. And don’t forget to eat, drink, and be merry. The Roman life is a sweet life, and the food, wine, and company is as good as any city can boast.
