MODERATE | SELF-DRIVE: Get off the beaten path and discover three countries in 9 days! Starting in Barcelona, enjoy the city at your own pace. Then, drive to Huesca and Jaco, charming medieval cities located close to the French border. In Lourdes, France, visit a famous pilgrimage site before finally heading out to Andorra, located high in the Pyrenees mountains.


On arrival in the colourful city of Barcelona, check into your hotel for a 2 night stay. You will have a free day to explore the city on your own or take an optional tour. Don’t miss the tree-lined Ramblas with its many vendors and cafes or the unusual creations of the architect Antoni Gaudi including the uniquely designed apartment buildings, Guell Park and the unfinished Sagrada Familia cathedral.

Next pick up your rental car and drive to the town of Huesca in north east Spain for a 3 night stay. Spend a day exploring Huesca and take in the sites including the imposing cathedral, the old Romanesque Pedro El Viejo Monastery, and the Church of St. Lawrence.

The following day, visit Castillo de Loarre (ticket included). This beautiful castle and national monument is an important historic site dating back to the 11th Century.

The following morning, drive to the city of Jaca near the French border in the Pyrenees Mountains. Jaca has a number of medieval buildings, towers and walls. Visit the Monastery of San Juan built in 920 AD beneath a giant rock and the Museum of Medieval Sacred Art with its Romanesque and Gothic frescoes.

Leave the next day and cross into France for a night in Lourdes where it is suggested you explore the city including the Sanctuary, the Cave of Revelations and the Basilica of Immaculate Conception.

Cross next into Andorra and stay overnight in its capital, Andorra La Vella. Here you have a ticket to relax at the Caldea Thermal Spa Centre. Also there is time to explore the city with its old and new sections.

The following morning, drive back to Barcelona and in the evening, have dinner at the Xup Xup Restaurant located on Barcelona Beach. Overnight in Barcelona.

Return your car the next day at the airport.

Day 2

Barcelona

After breakfast, spend the rest of day at your leisure to explore Barcelona. Discover the historic, traditional and ultra cosmopolitan city through its culture, architecture and art. You can start by visiting historical places such as Via Laietana, the Cathedral and its cloister, the Barrio Gothic and Plaça St. Jaume. Next, dive into the traditional side of Barcelona and celebrate the Barcelona Olympic Games and Olympic port which invigorated the city both economically and socially. Then, head up to Montjuic to visit the Olympic Stadium of Lluís Companys, the Palau St. Jordi and the Calatrava Tower. Finally, take some time to visit the Poble Espanyol, a selection of typical buildings of all Spain, hosting a sample of crafts of Spain. Barcelona is also known as the capital of modernism and home to the famous architect Antonio Gaudí. See his most emblematic works such as the Casa Mila, also known as 'La Pedrera', and Casa Batlló, Parque Güell, a large garden integrating architectural elements in nature and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Don't forget to visit the expiatory church of the Sagrada Familia, a masterpiece that Gaudí left unfinished.

Barcelona to Huesca

After breakfast at your hotel, you will drive (approximately 272km) to Huesca. Here you have time to explore the city's historic centre, the Huesca Cathedral, The Monastery San Pedro el Viejo, The church of St. Lawrence and government buildings.

Day 4

Huesca and Castillo de Loarre

After breakfast, we recommend a trip to Castillo de Loarre. This beautiful castle and national monument is an important historic site from the 11th and 12th century when it had strategic importance from its position between Christian and Muslim lands.

Day 5

Huesca, Jaca, and the Monastery of San Juan de la Pena

Today will start with breakfast at the hotel followed by two recommended attractions - the monastery of San Juan and the city of Jaca. The monastery was built in 920 beneath a giant rock outcropping and is located just outside Jaca. The city of Jaca is home to the Museum of Medieval Sacred Art as well as many medieval walls and towers, and a striking citadel.

Huesca to Lourdes

Today, after breakfast, you will drive (approximately 177km) to Lourdes. In the afternoon you can visit the sanctuary of Lourdes, cave of revelations and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (built by Monsignor Laurence, the Bishop who welcomed the revelations to Saint Bernadette Soubirous).

Day 7

Lourdes to Andorra

Your morning begins with breakfast at the hotel and then you will drive (approximately 274km) to Andorra. In the afternoon you can visit the sanctuary of the Virgen de Meritxell, patron saint of Andorra. Initially from the 12th century, it was destroyed by a fire in 1972 and this led to build a new one next door. Enjoy some free time to learn about Andorra, go shopping and enjoy this unique region!
