This 10-day self-drive tour is perfect for independent travelers who like the flexibility to decide their own pace and itinerary when exploring the world. Whether you prefer a self-drive car with pre-booked accommodation or a rental car, Goway has you covered. Sweden is a perfect country to explore at your own pace. If this tour peaks your interest, we also offer self-drive tours in other parts of the world.

Begin your self-drive exploration of Sweden in Stockholm, its capital city. Built on an archipelago of 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, Stockholm is a compact, gorgeous city boasting impeccable style. In the old town of Gamla Stan, wind through narrow cobblestone avenues and admire the Scandinavian architecture. Examine the remains of old warships at the Vasa Museum, Scandinavia’s most popular museum. Nobel Prize enthusiasts will want to visit the Blue Hall at Stockholm City Hall where the awards ceremony is held every year. Stockholm also boasts Scandinavia’s best cuisine culture, with ten Michelin star restaurants and a vibrant dining scene offering traditional Swedish meatballs and herring salad alongside diverse ethnic dishes.

From Stockholm, drive through the gorgeous landscape of southern Sweden. In Enkoping, tour Gronso castle, a French-style manor house built in the early seventeenth century. In Sala, delve into the silver mine that contributed to Sweden’s enormous wealth in the early modern period. In the industrial city of Falun, visit the famous Falu Kopparbergsgruva or Copper Mountain Mine and see where the famous red dye of Swedish architecture comes from. In Falun also see the home of Carl Larsson, the famous Swedish artist best known for his intricate watercolour paintings.

As you continue north, stop by Nusnas to see how the popular souvenir the Dalahast is made at the Grannas Dala Horse Workshop. Near the small town of Rattvik, hike in the surrounding hillsides or visit nearby Styggforsen waterfall. In Mora, visit the museum of painter Anders Zorn and hear stories about the town’s importance to Swedish history and the nation’s founder, Gustav Vasa.

From Mora, move southeast and visit the ski resort of Sunne. Stroll through the greenery of relaxing Rottneros Park and learn about writer Selma Lagerlof, the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. In the university city of Orebro, rent a bike and explore everything the “Town of Cycling” has to offer. Don’t miss Orebro Castle, a massive stone fortress surrounded by a moat that sits on an island in the middle of the town.

This self-drive tour through charming southern Sweden offers a perfect introduction to this lovely Nordic country.
