Tirol in the Winter: Munich to Munich

5 Days
On request

Experience the scenic Alps in winter on this family vacation to the Tirol. Head to famous Innsbruck, where you’ll see the medieval Altstadt, visit Swarovski Crystal Worlds, and enjoy nearby alpine attractions, including world-class ski resorts, a cable car, and an alpine coaster.

This 5-day family-friendly Austria vacation takes you through the winter wonderland of the Tirol.

Your ski vacation begins in Munich, where you’ll pick up your rental car and journey into Austria and the alpine landscape of the Tirol. Pass through a mountain landscape, gazing up at the alpine peaks towering above you, as you reach Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol and two-time host of the Winter Olympics. Innsbruck is a picturesque town set against the backdrop of the Nordkette Range of the Alps and will be your basecamp during your winter adventure.

Spend some time exploring the town itself, admiring the Habsburg Palace at the heart of the medieval Altstadt that overlooks the town. You’ll also be sure to see two of the city’s most popular attractions. First up is the Alpenzoo, which takes you and your family through an incredible facility showcasing animals endemic to the Alps, including Brown Bears, Wild Boars, and adorable Pine Martens. Afterwards, venture to Swarovski Crystal Worlds, where you’ll experience a dazzling museum that explores the world-famous Swarovski crystals.

During the next couple days, head into the mountains to experience the exciting joys of winter in the Alps. Your first stop is Christlum on the banks of Lake Achensee around 45 minutes from Innsbruck. As your kids are introduced to skiing for the first time in the company of the resort’s friendly mascots, Bobo and Snowy, you’ll be free to ski down the slopes of this gorgeous hillside. Afterwards, ride a snow tube down the slopes of Achenkirch before the evening when you’ll head on a torch-lit walk through the winter landscape. The next day, ride the most exciting attraction in the Tirol: the Imst Alpine Coaster, which takes you up 1,550m before descending the mountain at full speed, riding along the 3.5km track which makes the coaster the longest coaster in the Alps. Later that day, head to Serfaus, a family-friendly ski resort where your kids can ride the ski-doo as you take in the slopes.

At the end of your family ski trip in the Tirol, you’ll return to Munich to connect back home or continue your onward journey.
