Marvel at amazing winter landscapes in Norway and Finland. Stay overnight in an Ice Hotel with views of the stars from your bed. Take part in activities such as snowmobiling, a reindeer safari, visit to Santa Claus Village and a cruise on a genuine icebreaker.


Your Lapland adventure starts in Kirkenes in the far north of Norway, a small city situated at the mouth of the large Varangerfjord. You will have 2 nights’ accommodation here. During your stay, there will be a visit to the Arctic Snow Hotel which is a hotel totally made of ice. However the temperature is kept at an even -4 C/25 F which is a lot warmer than outside. Facilities include an outdoor hot tub and a lakeside sauna. Ice fishing, ice sculpting and snowshoeing are among the activities available. You will have dinner here before returning to your own hotel.

Next cross the border into Finland to Saariselka, a small village surrounded by untouched wilderness and mountain landscapes. You will have 2 nights here. On arrival, enjoy a visit to the National Museum of Finnish Sami. Sami are the indigenous Laplanders. The museum is a storehouse of spiritual and material culture of the Finnish Sami. Its main purpose is to support the identity and the cultural self esteem of the Sami.

The following day is free to try one of the many optional tours such as a snowmobile safari, a reindeer safari, a husky safari or a Northern Lights safari.

Head south to the village of Sinetta which is the location of the Arctic Snow Hotel where you will spend one night in a private glass-roofed igloo. Hot drinks are always available as is an open fireplace. The temperature in the Snow Hotel’s rooms is between 0 and -5C/ 32 and 24F. regardless of the outdoor temperature. Weather permitting, you can marvel at the amazing Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) and the millions of stars right from your bed. The Aurora Borealis alarm service alerts guests to appearances of the Northern Lights.

Your final stop is at Rovaniemi, known as the home town of Santa Claus, where you will spend the next 2 nights. The rest of the day is at leisure and again the many optional tours such as a snowmobile safari, a reindeer safari, a husky safari or a Northern Lights safari are available.

The following day brings a tour to the Santa Claus Village where you will have free time to experience this unique attraction including the possibility of having a quick visit with Santa Claus himself. In the afternoon, you will travel to Kemi to board an icebreaker and spend 4 hours watching this vessel do its job breaking the ice in Gulf of Bosnia and have a tour of the ship.

Your Winter Lapland comes to an end the next morning.

Day 1

Arrival in Saariselka

Arrival to Ivalo Airport and transfer to the hotel for check-in. Saariselka in the far North of Finnish Lapland lies the popular resort of Inari-Saariselka. The unique northern countryside, national parks, lake areas, rivers and highland fells offer a wealth of opportunities for year-round travel. In winter, the Northern Lights dance across the sky up to 200 days a year. The legendary Saariselka is the northernmost travel destination in Finland and boasts a variety of services. In Inari and other villages in the area, the Sami culture is still very much in evidence in everyday life. Here is where you find the genuine Lapland. Please consult the welcome letter which you receive on check-in to your hotel, and kindly note where and when to meet your tour leader. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Kirkenes

An early departure in driving further north to visit Kirkenes and its most famous attraction the Snowhotel. The small town is capital of the Barents Region and the gateway to the east located north east in Northern Norway, close to the Russian border.

After check-in the afternoon is at leisure to explore the small village.

In the evening, you will visit the amazing Kirkenes Snow Hotel for a tour and dinner.

Kirkenes - Saariselka

Depart Kirkenes travelling south through the northern Lapland landscape to the center of Sami world at Inari, the capital of Lapland. Here you will visit the Sami culture centre and parliament set in the heart of Sapmi in a unique natural landscape on the shore of Lake Inari and serves as a centre for Sami self-governance, culture, education and know-how. Modern conference premises, facilities and technology go hand in hand with genuine, living Sami culture. Lunch is included.

After the visit, onto the tiny village of Saariselka, the centre of Finland's winter sports.

Saariselka

In the morning, get ready for some fresh air activity literally following the footsteps of the Sami.

The afternoon is at leisure and it is highly recommended trying a Finnish sauna available at the hotel.

Day 5

Saariselka - Sinetta

In the morning after breakfast, you will travel to Sinetta, located 25 kilometres from Rovaniemi. Along the way, you will visit one of the highlights of the tour, Sami Reindeer Farm and Sleigh Ride.

The journey continues south to Sinetta on the twisting roads through the snowy forest to arrive at the unique Arctic SnowHotel, where you will check-in to your private Glass Igloo. Enjoy the warmth of your Glass Igloo and weather permitting, you can marvel at the amazing Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) and the millions of stars from your bed.

In the evening, you are invited for a traditional Lappish three course dinner in a magnificent wooden "Kota" where fresh salmon is slowly grilled over the fire on a huge fire pit in the center.

Sinetta - Santa Claus Village - Rovaniemi

Departing late in the morning for the next step on the winter adventure. Heading towards Rovaniemi, you will stop on the banks of the Kemi-joki river to enjoy one of the most idyllic Husky Safaris of the region.

The day continues with a visit to the world famous Santa Claus Village, built right on the Arctic Circle and home to Santa Claus. Stop by his busy post office where you can ask Santa to send a letter to your loved ones just before Christmas. Take a step into the magical world of Santa's home and meet Santa himself. No words can describe the feelings provoked during this moment from a fairy-tale. It is something you will always remember. A must for any visit to Lapland. From Santa Claus Village it is a short trip to the hotel for check in.

The rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure.

Rovaniemi - Kemi - Rovaniemi

For this day, you will head to the town of Kemi for a full day of activities. Experience one of the highlights of your winter adventure as you board the Sampo Icebreaker and spend 4 hours on this unforgettable vessel breaking though the ice in the northern Gulf of Bothnia.

This incredible experience includes a guided tour of the ship with its massive engine room, communications room and bridge, ice swimming and a three course meal at the on-board restaurant.

Return to Rovaniemi with early evening arrival at your hotel.
