Day 3

Bucharest to Sinaia

This morning you will check out of your hotel and be transferred back to the train station. Rejoin the train for the short journey to the mountain town of Sinaia. The train departs at 10:15am and will arrive in Sinaia at 12:00pm. On arrival transfer to a local restaurant for lunch and then on to Peles Castle, the summer home of the former King Carol.

Peles Castle is considered by many one of the most beautiful castles in all Europe. The castle was built in wood, stone, bricks and marble and comprises more than 160 rooms. The representative style used is German Renaissance, but one can easily discover elements belonging to the Italian Renaissance, Gothic, German Baroque and French Rococo style. Peles is surrounded by seven terraces decorated with statues (sculptured by the Italian, Romanelli), stone-made-wells, ornamental vases and Carara marble. The architects used an abundance of wooden decoration, both for the exterior and for the interior of the castle, which confers a very special quality to the building.

After the touring, you will return to the station late afternoon and your journey continues towards Hungary (depart Sinaia at 5:35pm).

Day 4

Arrive Budapest

This morning you will arrive in Budapest (at approximately 10:00am) and enjoy a sightseeing tour of this city split into two parts by the Danube River - Buda and Pest. Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its own 1,000-year-old culture, but also for the relics of others who settled here. Remains from both Roman occupation and much later ruled by the Turks can still be seen in the city. After the Ottoman Empire the union with Austria has a particular influence on the city's form and style.

Suburban Buda and its historic castle district offer medieval streets and houses, museums, caves and Roman ruins. The dynamic Pest side boasts the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, bookstores, antique stores and cafe houses.

Lunch today is provided before transferring to the Sofitel Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 5

Budapest to Vienna

This morning you will be transferred back to the train station to rejoin the train and depart for Vienna (leaving around 10:20am). Lunch is served as the train crosses into Austria, arriving in Vienna late afternoon, where you disembark for a visit to this beautiful city (arriving around 2:30pm).

Vienna is packed with imperial history; at the same time it has exciting contemporary museums, lively eating and nightlife scenes, and many quiet corners to explore. Vienna is a city where postmodernist and contemporary architectural designs contrast and fuse with the monumental and historic. The Museums Quartier is a perfect example, with modern museum architecture integrated into a public space created around former stables for the Habsburgs' horses. Twentieth-century designs such as Loos American Bar are little short of inspiring, while contemporary Vienna is constantly being given new and exciting infrastructural designs such as the new Twin City Liners boat landing (with the restaurant, bar and cafe Motto am Fluss) and the enormous Hauptbahnhof (main train station).

You will rejoin the train for dinner (departing Vienna around 7:30pm) and your final night on board.
