New Orleans Highlights

4 Days

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR MADE: New Orleans stands out as one of the most unique cities in the USA. Founded by the French and ruled by the Spanish for 40 years, today the city is mostly associated with music and delicious food. You can hear everything from Jazz and Afro-Cuban to Dixieland, Rhythm and Blues, and Zydeco. Sugar-dusted beignets, divine jambalaya, and spiced, smoked Andouille sausage are signature dishes served in fine dining restaurants as well as open-air cafes.

Experience the Big Easy on this 4-day trip to charismatic New Orleans. Stay just steps from beautiful Royal Street, and customize your experience with a Hop-On Hop-Off bus ticket and a guided tour of the peerless French Quarter.

If you’re here early and have time on day one, we highly recommend a food or cemetery tour, followed by a ghost tour after dark. Your Hop-On Hop-Off bus ticket is good for your second day in town, so we recommend using it to reach attractions further out such as City Park, Magazine Street, the Garden District, or the National WW2 Museum, possibly the best museum devoted to America’s role in the conflict you’ll find anywhere.

Think we forgot the French Quarter? Impossible! Your guide will take you from Jackson Square on an epic journey through the many faces of old New Orleans. Experience its story through the eyes of the people who shaped it, and when you’re done, don’t skip a beignet and café au lait at Café Du Monde! With the rest of your day, explore the galleries and street performances on Royal, learn about the real practices and beliefs behind New Orleans voodoo, pop into Mardi Gras World, or to understand the parade through local eyes, visit the Backstreet Cultural Museum in the Treme. In the evening, just remember the best fresh jazz is on Frenchman in the Marigny!

Day 3

Half Day Shared New Orleans: French Quarter Walking Tour

This 2-hour long walk through the historic French Quarter starts outside 529 St. Ann Street, former site of the Louisiana Welcome Center in the lower Pontalba Rowhouse adjacent to Jackson Square (left of square as you face river). Historically used as a parade ground, Jackson Square is now full of musicians, tarot card readers, and street performers.

You will walk downriver along the old French Market to the Ursuline Convent. This is the oldest building in the Mississippi Delta from Colonial times and housed some very adventurous and courageous nuns who came here in the early 1700s. You will pass the house of famous jazz player, Danny Barker who is legendary among the city's jazz musicians. You will then come to one of the many former macaroni factories of the lower French Quarter, proof of the major role that Sicilian immigrants played in the city's history.

You will come across the house of Vincente Nunez, a Spaniard, whose carelessness caused a fire that destroyed 80% of the city in 1788. You will then see several of the city's former slave markets and learn about Jean Francois Merieult, an influential and powerful Creole businessman and slave trader. After a stop at Preservation Hall, the city's holy grail of traditional jazz, the tour ends in Jackson Square with a story about the famous Madame de Pontalba, a French baroness and businesswoman with an eye for beautiful architecture.
