San Francisco Highlights

Duration
4 Days
Prices From:
US$ 661

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR MADE: From twisty Lombard Street to beautiful Golden Gate Park, San Francisco is one of America's great walking cities. Stroll the Embarcadero or sample Dim Sum in Chinatown. Enjoy the twinkling city lights from atop Twin Peaks or simply explore the city’s eclectic mix of neighborhoods as well as its great history in contemporary music. Napa, Sonoma, and Yosemite are easy inclusions, or embark on California's ultimate scenic route, Highway 1 to Los Angeles.

Known for its steep hills, eclectic architecture, cable cars, progressive outlook, and stunning landmarks, San Francisco will enchant you on this 4-day city break by the bay.

Sightseeing options are endless, but the city's neighbourhoods are just as ecclectic. Catch a cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf to watch fishermen prepare their crab catch before grabbing a signature sourdough sandwich for lunch. See the sea lions of Pier 39 and take a boat tour to Alcatraz Island. Wander the Palace of Fine Arts or snap a perfect picture of the Golden Gate Bridge from Crissy Field.

Don't wear your legs out. You'll have a 24-hour Hop-on Hop-off Bus ticket on your second day, perfect for reaching Ocean Beach, or Golden Gate Park, home of the de Yonge Museum and San Francisco Botanical Garden. If you have time, dive into the neighbourhoods that shaped San Francisco such as Haight-Ashbury, the famed hippie enclave turned haven for vintage finds, or the Castro, San Francisco's historic LGBTQ+ haven. You might take in the view from Coit Tower, pick up some beat poetry at A Different Light (Ginsberg's Howl is still their biggest seller), or admire the gardens of windy Lombard Street.

San Francisco is as delicious as it is diverse. A food tour invites you to Chinatown for tasty dim sum and an insight into medicinal herbs and other mystical traditions. Then discover North Beach, the city’s Italian quarter with its romantic sidewalk cafes. Francis Ford Copolla wrote The Godfather here, so of course, a pizza and wine is a must. The Beat poets shaped their voices in this neighbourhood too, in case you want to choose something appropriate to read.

There's no schedule for your last San Francisco day, so use it to pick up any sights you missed, graze your way through the food hall at the Ferry Terminal, explore the history and awesome Latin American eats in the Mission district, or embark on a day trip to Sonoma, or even Yosemite if you're up for a long day. Alternatively, set out on Hwy 1 to Monterey, then follow the dramatic, coastline all the way to LA if your heart desires. That is, if you didn't leave it in San Francisco.

Day 3

Food Walking Tour of Chinatown and North Beach

On their own, Chinatown and North Beach stir your senses. Together, they awaken you to new flavors, new cultures, and to parts of your heart. Explore both on this unique combination walking tour.

Start by exploring Chinatown by twilight, including tasting Dim Sum from one of the oldest bakeries in this vibrant neighborhood. You will delve into Chinese mysticism and culture, as you explore local sculpture and architecture and see close up how fortune cookies are made by hand.

Tea is to Chinatown as North Beach is to coffee and you will sample both. Search out authentic Chinese and Italian crafts and pottery. Uncover the hidden secrets only intrepid locals know. And you'll be astonished by new finds in secret alcoves.

Explore the "Beat Generation" of North Beach as we visit the very place where Francis Ford Coppola wrote "The Godfather" screenplay and the location where Steve Allen got his start, which has not changed at all since they performed there. Try some pizza and wine in North Beach.

From wine to Dim Sum, fortune cookies, and teas, to cappuccinos in the very places where the Beat Generation started and Barbary Coast history that made San Francisco what it is.
