Welcome to the Great Bear Rainforest! Upon arrival, you can relax, then map out some of the many activities available to guests at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge. There’s a general daily schedule, but you can make your own adjustments depending on what the animals or doing, or on the weather forecast.
A scenic, quiet drift down the Atnarko River is an ideal way to observe local wildlife without disrupting their natural rhythm. Take a nature walk to enjoy and learn about the magic and mystery of the old-growth forests, or visit old frontier cabins used by fur trappers.
The next day your guide will show you how to track grizzly bears and also will explain the ecology of the area. Enjoy a packed road before heading out to look for wild animals, then relax and enjoy the many features of Tweedsmuir Park Lodge.

Arrive at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge
Welcome to the Great Bear Rainforest! When you arrive at Bella Coola airport, Tweedsmuir Park Lodge staff are there to greet you and transfer you to Tweedsmuir Park Lodge (unless you arrive at the lodge by car). If you arrive before 12:00, you can enjoy lunch with your hosts. Begin your adventure with an orientation tour of the resort and mapping out what activities you are interested to pursue during your stay. Your private package is designed to be flexible, letting you decide what activities you do on what day. A general schedule is laid out for each day, but may be adjusted for weather, animal activity and other preferences. Lunch and dinner included.

There is no better way to observe the local wildlife than with a silent and scenic drift down the Atnarko River. In the afternoon you can head out on a guided walk to learn about the flora and fauna of the Great Bear Rainforest. Take a day to be introduced to the old growth forests of Tweedsmuir Park on an interpretive Nature Walk or visit the old homesteads and frontier trapper cabins of Tote Road. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

After breakfast it’s time to head out with your naturalist guide for a Nature Walk in the old growth forests of Tweedsmuir Park. Your guide is keen to explain the ecology of the area and show you how to track grizzly bears. Enjoy a packed lunch in the field before driving on the Tote Road where animal sightings are common (except for grizzly bears as it is not bear season yet). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

- If you requite the shuttle between Bella Coola airport and Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, please provide flight information at the time of booking
- Guests must have good mobility and must be able to walk on uneven terrain for hours at a time.
- We can accommodate Special dietary needs with notice at the time of booking.
- Smoking is not permitted inside the resort or during the tours.
- Tours may have to change or adjusted to maximize the opportunity for wildlife sightings on each day
How to get there by Air
Pacific Coastal Airlines offers flights between Vancouver Airport (South Terminal) and Bella Coola (approx. 70 minutes; certain flights will stop at Anahim Lake en route to/from Bella Coola). Upon arrival in Bella Coola, a Tweedsmuir Park Lodge team member will pick up guests and transfer them to the lodge (approximately 45 minutes). Pacific Coastal Airlines has either 1 or 2 flights to Bella Coola per day. Schedules are available upon request, and flight departure times must be requested at the time of booking. To streamline arrival and departure experiences, Tweedsmuir Park Lodge suggests booking flights that arrive at Bella Coola closest to 12:00. For the day of departure, we recommend the flight that leaves Bella Coola closest to 12:00. If the suggested flight times are unavailable, other flight times are fine.
How to get there by Car & Ferry from Bella Coola
BC Ferries’ Discovery Coast service from Port Hardy to Bella Coola is available on select dates. We recommend that you reserve the ferry in advance, as space is limited. We also suggest staying overnight in Bella Coola after disembarking the ferry. From Bella Coola, it is approximately a 1-hour drive east (60 km) along Highway 20 to the lodge. Upon entering Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, look for signs directing you to the lodge. It will be on the right-hand side of the road.
