FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR MADE: The White House and Capitol Hill, connected by famous Pennsylvania Avenue, are worth a visit on their own, but Washington offers many more historic sites and some of the finest museums in the world. History buffs, plus anyone interested in politics, past or present, are going to be in their element. The city’s culinary scene is thriving and shopping, especially in the quirkier local stores, is excellent. Washington is also a great starting place from which to explore a lot of American history in places such as Gettysburg, Richmond and Virginia Beach on an extended itinerary.

See the monuments that define the city that shapes a nation in Washington DC. This 4-day trip invites you to dip your toes in the United States’ capital, with plenty of time to explore on your own.

There’s lots to see in DC, so try to arrive early to maximize your sightseeing time. The National Mall is a great place to start. Take in the view from the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, zip to the top of the Washington Monument, and walk around the Tidal Basin to see the Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials. With a few hours to spare, step inside one of the incredible Smithsonian Museums, devoted to Natural History, Air and Space, American History, or the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

DC is a treasure trove of historic and political monuments and museums. Your 24-hour, hop-on hop-off bus ticket makes it a little easier to navigate, with full commentary to put your discoveries in perspective. It can take you to Arlington Cemetery, Ford's Theatre, Pennsylvania Avenue and the White House, the Capitol Building, and stately Georgetown. Just don’t miss your cruise on the Potomac River, with awesome monument views. Don’t rush trying to see everything! You have a full day at leisure in DC to explore, and we recommend departing late on day four as well to explore some extra sights and neighbourhoods.
