Selinda Reserve Safaris, Vacations & Wildlife Experiences

  • On a game drive in Botswana - always a great wildlife experience when on your Selinda Reserve safaris.

  • Cape Buffalo eating plants in the river

Selinda Reserve is a 300,000 acre private wildlife sanctuary found in northern Botswana. It is located to the west of Chobe therefore offering excellent game viewing without as many tourists as other reserves and parks in the country on  Botswana safaris.

The Selinda Reserve follows the course of the Selinda Spillway which connects the Okavango to the Linyanti river system. It serves as a major route for game that migrates between the two systems. The area is made up of dry grasslands with waterholes and palm fringed “islands” as well as Leadwood trees which are found throughout the reserve.

For many years up to 80% of Selinda was used for big trophy hunting. Today, the reserve is very serious about conservation. Hunting has been banned and much of the area is used for photographic safaris instead. The Selinda Reserve is a good place to view antelope species like roan, sable and eland. Cheetahs can be seen in the north on the floodplains and lions also live in the area. Elephants are common, so too are buffalo, giraffe, zebras and wildebeest. The endangered African wild dog is found in Selinda and often dens close to camps. Selinda’s location away from major tourist routes allows the reserve to offer a truly authentic African experience on Botswana safaris.
