A well-developed region, Khomas is one of only three regions in Namibia that doesn’t have a shoreline or an international border. Instead, it shares regional borders with Erongo in the west, Otjozondjupa in the north, Omaheke in the east and Hardap in the south. The name of the region comes from the Khomas Hochland mountain range that is found near Windhoek and offers a start to your Namibia safari.

With strong economical, financial and trade sectors, Khomas is home to Windhoek, both the capital of the region and of the country. Windhoek is considered unique amongst other African cities as it combines a mixture of African life with the infrastructure of a European city. The capital’s geographical location in the centre of the country makes Windhoek the gateway to Namibia and it is often the starting point for safaris that travel through the country. Despite only occupying approximately 4.5% of Namibia’s total land area, Khomas hosts the highest population of any region in the country.

Another draw for visitors on a Namibia vacation to the Khomas region is Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve. Even though it is the smallest game park in Namibia, the park offers a variety of games including gemsbok, kudu, mountain zebra, springbok, baboons and more. Unlike other parks on a Namibia safari where visitors are often required to remain in vehicles, those who come to Daan Viljoen are allowed to walk around the park affording a unique experience.
