Lusaka Tours, Vacations, Travel Packages & Experiences

  • Experiencing luxury tented accommodation is a real highlight on all Zambia safaris.

One of Southern Africa’s fastest developing cities, Lusaka is the largest and capital city of Zambia.  Its location allows it to connect with the country’s four major highways heading north, south, east and west and it is the centre of both commerce and government.

Once the site of a small village, Lusaka began to expand after the arrival of European settlers, mainly from Britain, who built a railroad there in 1905.  By 1935, Lusaka had become the capital of Northern Rhodesia.  The city emerged as the centre of an independence movement that helped lead to the creation of the Republic of Zambia.  Once independence was granted, Lusaka remained as the country’s capital.

Recent years have seen Lusaka become a popular urban settlement hosting a variety of different cultures.  The city is made up of multistory buildings, suburbs and busy shanty towns.  While Lusaka is often considered a key entry point for tourists on a Zambia vacation to explore the rest of tjhe country, the city hosts its own interesting highlights.  Munda Wanga Environmental Park, a naturalist environment, houses yellow baboons, elephants, lions and more.  It was created in 1956 as a private garden but is now an important education facility that encourages Zambians to learn about conservation.  Tourists should also venture to Soweto Market which is always buzzing with activity and lays claim to thousands of stalls offering a multitude of products.
