The Orinoco Delta is situated where the Orinoco River enters the Atlantic Ocean through two tributaries, the Cano Manamo and the Rio Grande. It is a permanent wetland and is notable for its mangrove swamps and its eco-tourism. There is a vast and varied amount of birdlife as well as mammals and reptiles. The local inhabitants are the Warao who is a native Indian tribe, peaceful and friendly and exist through hunting and fishing.
The capital of the region is Tucupita where accommodation is available. One can, if interested stay in one of the stilted houses of the Warao.
