Argentina is the eighth largest country in land area in the world (4000 kilometres/2400 miles long and 1000 kilometres/620 miles wide approximately) and is the largest Spanish-speaking country. And from a tourism perspective, Argentina tours is the most visited country in South America.

About Argentina

Being this big means that it is very varied in its landscapes especially as the climate ranges from subtropical in the north to temperate in the south. It does have other contrasts from large cosmopolitan cities to wild, barren and sparsely populated areas consisting of lakes, mountains and forests.

What are the top cities to visit in Argentina?

The capital, Buenos Aires, has been called the “Paris of South America” which reflects the well-laid boulevards that criss-cross the city. It is known for its elegant architecture, excellent cuisine, good nightlife and fashionable shopping. It is certainly a sophisticated metropolis. On an Argentina vacation, the neighbourhoods should not be missed such as historic San Telmo with its narrow streets and colonial-style houses, La Boca, the most colourful and certainly the most gritty with its historical past and Recoleta, upscale and with lots of green spaces. It was in Buenos Aires that the Tango was born in the late 19th Century emanating from working-class neighbourhoods with European and African influences.

Cordoba, the second largest city, is located in the heart of the Pampas (the agricultural grasslands) surrounded by mountains. It is an attractive city with many old colonial-style buildings not to be missed on Argentina tours.

Mendoza is the centre of the Argentinean wine industry and the perfect place for wine tours and tastings. In the shadow of the Andes close to the Chilean border, it is a very walkable city.

Bariloche (or to give it its full name San Carlos de Bariloche) is a city tucked into the Andes Mountains giving it the ability to be the ski capital of Argentina. Situated on the beautiful Nahuel Huapi Lake, it is an ideal resort, summer or winter on Argentina travel.

What are the top places to visit in Argentina? Iguassu Falls, shared by three countries, has the largest part located in Argentina. Higher than Niagara Falls, it is a natural wonder and worth spending time there. Take in the interestingly named Devil’s Throat, the most impressive part or take a small plane ride over the falls for a spectacular view.

Patagonia, the “Southern Frontier, occupies a large chunk of the country”. This region is in parts, very remote and rugged consisting of mountains, glaciers, steppes, forests and lakes. If this wild type of beauty appeals, here you will find nature at its best on an Argentina vacation.
On the Pampas, perhaps consider a stay on a ranch and becoming a Gaucho for a few days.
